This is another important verse about decision-making and the will of God, but as in the last Roundup, it is easy to overlook.  Note how Paul has an open door in the Lord, but this time he passes it by because he wants to find his friend Titus.  Apparently, Paul has other open doors from which to choose.  He didn’t appear to be idle.  So unless God gives you a clear, unmistakable, supernatural sign, then choose with freedom.

This is an important verse about decision-making and the will of God, but it is also easy to overlook.  People sometimes look for open or closed doors as signs from God, but note how Paul considers it a wide door despite many adversaries.  If we aren’t careful, we can interpret resistance as a “sign” that God doesn’t want us to do something.  Don’t decide based on hints and nudges.  That’s not biblical.  I’ve heard of people psyching themselves out in the other direction as well, thinking that if something is too easy, it isn’t from God.  So unless God gives you a clear, unmistakable, supernatural sign, then choose among any moral options with wisdom and freedom.

The “Christian” Left makes up all sorts of reasons about what they think Jesus’ mission was, and they often think that everyone gets saved (or doesn’t even need to be saved). Of course, they don’t think He was the divine, incarnate Son of God, but that’s another issue with them. But one of the first passages of the first book of the New Testament tells what his main purpose was, and notes that only his people will be saved.

This is such a beautiful passage about how God can work through our trials to help us love our neighbors. Just with my cancer diagnoses and treatments alone, we have had many dozens of opportunities to apply this.

This passage stopped me in my tracks the first time I read through the Bible. It explains so much. Atheists know that God exists. Yes, be charitable and share apologetic arguments with them along with the Bible, but do so with the confidence that deep down they know you are right, and remember that only God can make them spiritually alive. And be grateful that He made you spiritually alive and able to see his truth, because you and I would never have done so in our sinful flesh.

When I was in kindergarten, my teacher looked like Barbara Bush, only she was even nicer. Truly iconic. But the teacher across the hall was gruff. I love this passage. Peter is wondering about when he will die relative to when John will, and Jesus sets him straight. That’s good advice for all of us: Just follow Jesus! We don’t need to know what He will do with other people, or why things have played out as they have. It also points to Jesus’ divinity, as He is the one who determines how long we will live.

John 21:22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”

Op-Ed: An Open Letter to Christians Using Preferred Pronouns — I agree. If you meet someone for the first time, then I think you are stuck using the preferred name they give you. And there are all sorts of odd and unisex names out there. But you don’t use pronouns when talking directly to someone, so it isn’t a politeness issue anyway. But it is lying and caving in to bullying to deliberately use the wrong pronouns. Don’t be cowards. I’ll get fired before I put my pronouns in a work email or whatever — although I’d be tempted to say they are XY/XY/XY, as in XY chromosomes.

If the winner of the 1976 Men’s Decathlon is a female, then Karen Carpenter was fat. If you truly love your neighbors you won’t indulge their delusions and/or perversions — and you certainly won’t force others to indulge them or tell kids they may not “really” be boys or girls.

In short, to declare your own gender is to attempt a coup d’etat of Heaven, to overthrow God, and to sit on his throne as the Creator and the dispenser of genders. Might the Lord cast you down like the civilization of Babel and scatter you like its haughty descendants (Genesis 11:9)

When you use someone’s “preferred gender pronoun that corresponds with their expressed gender identity” you are bearing false witness against them (Exodus 20:16). We are not to lie about our neighbors, and even the wicked and/or mentally or spiritually ill are our neighbors (Luke 10:25-37). If you were suffering from a mental or spiritual malady that gave you delusions or self-deceptions, you would not want people to reinforce it, but free you from it. Ergo, to use ‘preferred pronouns’ is not loving your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:31). It is mean-spirited and unloving.

Furthermore, to lie about someone’s pronoun is not only to bear false witness against your neighbor, but it is to bear false witness against God. God made them male or female, and you lie about the King of Glory and the work of his hands. If someone were to say that heavens declare the glory of Satan and the stars show his handiwork, they would be blaspheming God. And because God makes gender, to imply an individual gets to make their own gender by using their preferred pronouns, is blaspheming God.

I think there is an unfortunate chapter break between Luke 20 and 21. I used to think that the widow’s mite passage was an encouragement to give more, but a sermon by John MacArthur disabused me of that. The context is how the scribes are bad, including devouring widows’ houses. Then it shows how a widow gives all she had to live on. We should give generously, of course (2 Cor. 9), but the notion that we would daily give all we have to live on is absurd. It would be irresponsible to do that. And the next passage is about how the temple will be coming down soon anyway.

Luke 20:46–47 “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”

Luke 21:1–4 Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. Dating apps have rapidly and dramatically altered the landscape for the worse. 80-90% of women will only consider 10-20% of guys. The top guys know this and are unlikely to ever commit, especially when “sleeping down” with the lower-value women. Yet those women are “alpha widows,” thinking that they should be able to get a top guy (by the world’s definition) to commit. It won’t happen. These women have convinced themselves that guys won’t (and shouldn’t) care about their notch counts, but that is a fantasy. No self-respecting guy wants a woman who has had s3x with dozens or hundreds of guys and now wants to settle with him — probably temporarily — for some beta bucks.

And the women generally have rigid standards (e.g., 6′ tall, 6 figure income, etc.), some of which a guy can’t control. Yet the women freak out when men have simple standards (tat-free, debt-free virgins). Despite what feminism has told women, most men don’t care if you have a successful career.

The women will cry and ask “where have all the good men gone?” The answer, as always, is that they are where the women left them: In the Friend Zone.

Of course, I believe in repentance, forgiveness, and redemption. But behaviors have consequences. The world has been lying to men and women in increasingly ridiculous ways, and if you believe those lies you will experience harm.

I’ve been blessed with a great marriage, but the rules have changed dramatically over the years. Even if men marry they should be better informed of the risks. No-fault divorce can ruin a guy’s life and keep him from his kids. Divorces are initiated by women 80% of the time, and the figure goes to 90% if the women are college-educated.
