Two part question for the loving, tolerant Left — including the “Christian” Left:  1. Should we screen for the Coronavirus for people entering the country through airports or cruise ships?  2. If yes, then how about at our borders?

Hoax2 — Just when you thought the media and the Democrats couldn’t sink any lower, they make up a hoax about Trump’s hoax comments — and prove his point entirely, namely that the Left is politicizing it all!  He said their politicization was the hoax, not the virus itself — and they know that, but assume their low-information followers won’t.

P.S. Just kidding.  We knew they could sink lower.

Alleged Victim of Bill Hybels Tells Story of How Church Tried to Silence Her — Hybels was awful and creepy for a long time. Shame on those around him who let it all happen.

In this meeting I was told I was lying or mis-remembering every bit of what I reported. I was told the comments about my body and my clothes weren’t inappropriate since I had already shared in my testimony that I wasn’t wearing anything provocative. I was told the grooming patterns, boundary testing and secrecy building of ‘delete’ email conversations and him frequently affirming the most broken parts of my story growing up were me “being dramatic”. I was told the numerous inappropriate invitations I had declined, to be alone with him (in inappropriate settings) were his attempt to be available to pastor and mentor me. I was told that him meeting me outside on the very day I went to the church to document my grievances with HR, after being asked by his colleagues for real time updates about my arrival time, was “a coincidence”. I was told if they wanted to, they could make it look like I was pursuing him. Although not one person who could confirm any of my accounts was ever contacted, I was told that none of them were true. I was told I needed to know I was the only woman in 42 years to ever say he was inappropriate with me.I was then asked for confidentiality about my experiences, which I refused. The word devastated doesn’t begin to describe how I left that meeting. I resigned from my position and spent weeks just trying to make it through the day. The most painful part wasn’t even his behavior- rather that the church leaders whom I loved and respected and served with, didn’t believe me and failed to protect me. I have wrestled with God about my calling to serve the church almost every day since.

Dixon later tried to regain the mayor’s office after completing her probation, but was defeated by Pugh in the city’s 2016 Democratic primary.

Book recommendation: The Ten Commandments of Progressive Christianity

This book is a great take-down of common “Christian” Left half-truths and outright lies.  It is a shorter and easier read than J. Gresham Machen’s classic 1923 book, Christianity and Liberalism, which I’ve also been reading (hard to believe it is almost 100 years old, as it still perfectly describes “Christian” Left wolves and their theology).

I loved this endorsement, especially the part I put in bold:

Don’t let the brevity of this book fool you . Mike Kruger has written a trenchant critique of the intellectual bankruptcy and theological deviancy of progressive Christianity. Churches , pastors , students , youth groups , Christian schools , and Christian colleges would do well to appropriate the wisdom in this short but devastating little book .  Kevin DeYoung , Senior Pastor , Christ Covenant

A couple excerpts from the book:

In 1923 , J . Gresham Machen , then a professor at Princeton Seminary , wrote his classic text , Christianity and Liberalism . 1 The book was a response to the rise of liberalism in the mainline denominations of his own day. Machen argued that the liberal understanding of Christianity was , in fact , not just a variant version of the faith , nor did it represent simply a different denominational perspective , but was an entirely different religion . Put simply , liberal Christianity is not Christianity.

. . .

On top of all of this , one might understandably be confused by the progressive appeal to Jesus as a guide for morality when many progressives won’t, in fact , follow Jesus ’ moral teaching! For example , are progressives willing to stand by Jesus ’ plain teaching that marriage is between a man and a woman ( e.g . , Matthew 19 : 5 – 6 ) ? Or that he is the only way of salvation ( John 14 : 6 ) ? If not, then why the eagerness to appeal to him as a moral teacher?

. . .

Jesus never said the problem with the Pharisees is that they are too concerned with orthodoxy . The problem with the Pharisees was legalism (putting man – made laws ahead of God’s) and hypocrisy (saying one thing and doing another). And the two often went together . It wasn’t that they cared too much about good theology , but that they cared too little! Their theology was a mess. It glorified man , twisted God’s own priorities, and selectively followed God’s law. This raises an important point. Teaching people good theology is not the problem, but the solution. Teaching people good theology is a vital , essential way of caring for them. Rather than viewing theology as something that harms and oppresses people, we should be reminded that good theology actually comforts and liberates people. The Pharisees harmed people precisely by teaching them (and modeling for them ) bad theology.

No One on Food Stamps Should Be Allowed to Vote — Agreed, but anyone benefiting from government payouts shouldn’t be allowed, and that’s hard to discern when the lobbying comes from corporations.  The key is less government, where there is less to give away and less people to bribe.  This isn’t a new phenomenon.

Constantine beefed up the palace bureaucracy. He created a set of powerful officials who were directly responsible to him. They were new and more specialized administrators with new bureaus to run. There was an even a new corps, staffed by legionaries, to carry confidential messages between the center and the provinces. All this consolidation and centralization made government more efficient but not more pure. All those administrators expected “tips,” to put it mildly. In fact, the bigger Roman government grew, the more corruption became a problem. Constantine understood that exchanging gifts and favors in return for services was no small part of government. So, in order to forge ties with powerful people in the provinces, he created new titles and distinctions and even, as mentioned, a new Senate for Constantinople. He was also lavish in his generosity to individuals and cities. This was good for politics but not for the Treasury. As a result, taxes went up.

Religious pluralism is intellectually bankrupt

One of my old favorites . . .

pluralism.jpg

There are two main kinds of religious pluralism.  One is good and one is intellectually bankrupt.

Good pluralism: Numerous distinct ethnic, religious, or cultural groups are present and tolerated within a society.

Bad pluralism: All religions are true and equally valid paths to God.

Pluralism can be a good thing if it means we should tolerate the beliefs of others.  Jesus, who was God in flesh, didn’t force anyone to convert.  So why should we think that we can?

Christianity should flourish in a society with good pluralism, as the Gospel can be shared freely and there isn’t pressure to fake one’s beliefs.  Sadly, we often get complacent in such atmospheres and Christianity spreads just as well or better in times of persecution.  It tends to weed out false believers and teachers more effectively.

Of course, there are some truths in each religion, but there are irreconcilable differences in their essential truth claims regarding the nature of God, the path to salvation, their view of Jesus, etc.

Here are some examples:

One of the following is possible when we die, but under no circumstance could more than one be possible:

  1. Reincarnation (Hinduism, New Age)
  2. Complete nothingness (Atheism)
  3. One death then judgment by God (Christianity, Islam, others)

Jesus was either the Messiah (Christianity) or He was not the Messiah (Judaism and others), but He cannot be both the Messiah and not the Messiah.

God either doesn’t exist (Atheism), He exists and is personal (Christianity) or He exists and is impersonal (Hinduism).

Jesus either died on the cross (Christianity) or He didn’t (Islam).  The Koran repeatedly claims that Jesus did not die on the cross (Sura 4:157-158). What evidence does Islam offer? One guy with a vision over 500 years after the fact. That is not what we base history upon, especially when scholars of the first century — whether Christians or not — agree that a real person named Jesus died on a Roman cross.

God either revealed himself to us (many religions) or he didn’t (Atheism, Agnosticism).

Jesus is the eternally existent God (Christianity) or He isn’t (everything else, including the Mormon and Jehovah’s Witness). In fact, in Islam it is an unforgivable sin to claim that Jesus is God, so there is no way to reconcile Christianity and Islam.

Some people hold the view that God will be whatever you conceive him to be in this life.  That is one of the most bizarre religious views I have heard.  I’m not sure how they came to the conclusion that every human gets a designer god and that at death it would be just as one wished.

Consider the view of Mahatma Gandhi and Hinduism in general:

After long study and experience, I have come to the conclusion that [1] all religions are true; [2] all religions have some error in them; [3] all religions are almost as dear to me as my own Hinduism, in as much as all human beings should be as dear to one as one’s own close relatives. My own veneration for other faiths is the same as that for my own faith; therefore no thought of conversion is possible. (Mahatma Gandhi, All Men Are Brothers: Life and Thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi as told in his own words, Paris, UNESCO 1958, p 60.)

Yet the exclusive claims of Christianity prove Gandhi’s worldview (that of Hinduism) to be false.  Among other things, the Bible claims at least one hundred times that Jesus is the only way to salvation.  It also commands us not to worship idols and that we die once and then face judgment (it does not hold to reincarnation).  Those are key elements of the Hindu faith.  So if Hinduism is true then Christianity cannot be true.  But if Hinduism is correct in stating that all religions are true, then Christianity must be true.  But Christianity claims to be the one true path, so if it is true then Hinduism is not.

Also, Hinduism claims that Christianity is true, so if Christianity is false then so is Hinduism.  Either way, the logic of Gandhi and Hinduism collapses on itself.

When I share the Gospel with people I do so as respectfully as possible.  But I always try to work in examples like the above to highlight that under no circumstances can we both be right about the nature of God and salvation.

I used to hold the position of religious pluralism.  We studied world religions about 15 years ago in an Adult Sunday School class and, sadly, didn’t dig very deep (I was attending church but not really a believer . . . at best I was “saved and confused”).  Most of us walked away thinking the religions were “all pretty much the same” and with no incentive to go out and make a case for Christianity.

So why did I – and so many people today, including Christians – embrace bad pluralism? I think it is typically out of a lack of clear thinking on the topic.  When you examine the essentials of these faiths it is not that hard to show how they are irreconcilable.

Political correctness and fear contribute as well.  It is easy to deny the exclusivity of Jesus (or the truth claims of whatever faith one follows) if one wants to avoid controversy.  But as unpopular as it is to make truth claims, it is really a rather logical thing to do.  The one claiming all religions are true needs to back up that claim with their evidence and logic.  Just rattle off a list of religions, sects and cults and ask why they are all true.  Just be careful saying things like, “Hinduism has a lot of sects.”  If you say it too quickly people will have surprised looks on their faces.

Sheer laziness is another factor.  Knowing enough about one’s faith to defend it in the marketplace of ideas is hard work.  Religious pluralism is a great excuse not to evangelize.

I expect many non-Christians to say that all paths lead to God, but it really bothers me when Christians do so.  They should meditate on this passage, among others:

Galatians 1:8-9 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

Traditional Wives Set Feminism Back — I’m glad to see the “tradwife” thing becoming a popular discussion topic.  Even if the feminists are hating on the concept, it highlights the debate.  Too many women think there is no alternative, but there is a much better way.  Countless women – including many in the church – have bought that lie that they can sleep around and be career-oriented until they are 30 and then have their pick of perfect men.  But that’s not how it plays out.

Feminists can plainly see how much more difficult feminism has made their lives, yet going back home, being wives, mothers, and homemakers is appalling to them since it “sets women back.” You see, women, Satan is the author of confusion. Feminists are confused. They believe they fought so hard for their rights that if they go back, they’re giving up all of these rights that have made their lives so difficult.

If Trump is so bad, why does the Left deliberately lie about him?

One of the ways you know that Leftists – including their wholly-owned media and the “Christian” Left wolves — are malicious liars is how they reflexively misquote Donald Trump to slander him.  They know they are speaking lies but they do it anyway no matter how many times conservatives out them.  Why?  Because their followers will never know they are lies.

Example 1: Michael Bloomberg recently whipped out the top lie, though it is standard fare on the Left, especially from people like the late Rachel Held Evans (she used all of these regularly and refused to be corrected):

Americans felt so much pain when Donald Trump said they were very fine people among the Nazis and the Klan.

Fact check: FALSE.  Trump actually said this:

“I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and white nationalists because they should be condemned totally.”

Trump wasn’t the least  bit vague, but the Left continues the lies.  That has been refuted so many times that it is unconscionable for them to repeat it.  More here.

Example 2: “Trump admits to sexual assault!!”  Fact check: FALSE  Yes, Trump made a crude locker-room reference that was caught on video and saved by the media until just before the elections (because “news” or something).  But the Left always leaves out the key words: “And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything . . . Grab ’em by the . . .”

Got that?  If they let you do something then it isn’t sexual assault.  It is consensual.  His comment – which was almost certainly an exaggeration (does anyone really think he just walks up and starts kissing women he just met, as he also said in the clip?) — says as much about star-struck women as it does his behaviors at the time.

Example 3: “He made fun of a disabled reporter!!” Fact check: FALSE See this — The True Story: Donald Trump Did Not Mock a Reporter’s Disability

There are more, of course, but you get the idea.  The facts are there but the Left deliberately ignores them.

And when they aren’t misquoting him, they just lie about him.  How many times have you heard him called a Fascist?   Uh, yeah, of course Trump is a fascist! All fascists cut taxes, eliminate government regulations, fight for gun rights, etc.

Anyone claiming Trump is a fascist might as well shout that they are ignorant of politics and history.

P.S. Trump is a fascist, so give him your guns.

Is There Still a Place for Blogs in 2020? — Yes!  Good analysis.

Second, we are seeing the shortcomings of other forms of social media. When blogs began, they were social media. They were an early form of online social connection between people who shared similar interests, whether that was politics, hobbies, Reformed theology, or anything else. But it did not take long for other forms of social media to develop—Twitter was at first considered “microblogging” and Facebook was a kind of “friend and family blogging.” Yet as much as each of these has displaced blogging in certain ways, none has quite replaced it. Twitter causes as many problems as it solves by its immediacy and by the nature of its character limit; Facebook emphasizes the most urgent information while older updates or articles almost immediately disappear into the void. These forms of social media speak to the present, but don’t adequately archive information. They allow people to speak quickly, but don’t value thoughtfulness. Though they have strengths, they also have weaknesses—weaknesses that blogs address well.

Elizabeth Warren Is Doomed, and Feminists Can’t Understand Why — All of the pro-abortion, gun-grabbing, pro-coveting, pro-perversion, pro-fornication Democrats are evil, of course, but that doesn’t mean we can’t rejoice as most of them lose. It is schadenfreude time to watch Warren.

Warren is the phoniest politician in memory, from the Fauxcahontas lie as the foundation for her entire career to the cringe-worthy beer video and everything in between. She was popular among some females, but what real male would vote for a woman who says she will let a trans child — who is by definition mentally ill and foolish — pick the Secretary of Education?

And now in her desperation she’ll get even weirder. Pass the popcorn!

What’s Wrong with Jesus Calling? — Everything.  I just made this point to a group of Kairos prison ministry volunteers.  There was an exercise that was half good (expressing your desires to Jesus through prayer) and half bad (asking Jesus to tell you what He wants you to do, but not telling you to read the Bible to find that out).  Of course I told them why we wouldn’t be doing the second part.  I noted that with books like Jesus Calling you need to add them to the Bible or throw them away, and that they could guess which one I would recommend.

So Young has either written the words of Jesus, or she hasn’t. There’s no in between. If she hasn’t received a word from the Lord, but she claims she has—and made a lot of money from it—is that not the very picture of a false prophet?

The Bible is God’s sufficient word. We need no other! Beware these crazy women who claim God has spoken to them apart from Scripture. The Bible calls them liars, when we understand the text.

Suspect Who Ploughed Vehicle Through Voter Registration Tent Admitted Anti-Trump Motive

Will the media now dig through Timm’s social media history to discover who radicalized him into attempting this act of terror? Or will the story completely disappear by the end of the week? Don’t hold your breath.

Push Your Sin Out the Window — Good strategy!

‘Just Xerox a copy’: After you hear Mike Bloomberg’s 2015 speech on minorities you’ll see why he tried to block it #BloombergIsRacist — Also see Pete’s comments on black money — oops, dark money — to a group of black people.  If Trump said these things we’d hear about it 24×7, even though the only “racist” comments they attribute to Trump are those they have made up.

When the Church Apologizes for Its Beliefs — We dishonor God when we apologize for what He says.  And we make a terrible witness as well.  The world will always hate you for beliefs, but when you cave to them they lose all respect.

Just days later came another headline, and this one, sadly, didn’t surprise me: “Church sorry for saying that sex is just for married heterosexuals.” Leaders in the Church of England said their initial statement had “jeopardized trust” and caused “hurt and division.” Nothing in the follow-up statement retracted the substance of their earlier pastoral guidance, which made their subsequent apology something like this: We’re sorry we told you what we believe.

Original sin in photo form.  “You can’t tell me what to do!”
