It isn’t generosity when you “give” the money of others

This is an update of a 12-year old post, but note how timely it is: Our grifter President has always been a total cheapskate, in addition to his many other moral failings, yet he and his handlers are oh-so-generous with our money. And keep in mind that his income noted below may not include the kickbacks he got from other countries.

A typical year of giving for Joe Biden. Probably!

When the title says “give,” it obviously means, “take at the point of a gun to redistribute to your voters in counterproductive ways.”

Most Liberals assume that they are more generous.  They come from Stereotype Land and read the script just like the media and entertainment complexes tell them to.  But studies show that by any measure — giving time, money, or even blood donations — conservatives are more generous.  They just don’t lobby Caesar to “give” your money and count it as a good deed on their part.  See Who Really Cares.

And consider how these Liberal heroes want to take your money to “give” to others but can’t manage any real and significant giving themselves.  If Joe Biden, for example, can’t afford to give more than 0.2% over his roughly quarter-million-dollar income (that is point-two percent, not two percent — only $369 per year), then how could he possibly afford to pay increased taxes?  Oh yeah, there will be loopholes for him and those who vote for the tax increase bills.

His 0.2% giving and the percentages below are even worse than they look because they are based on Adjusted Gross Income, which is typically much less than gross income.

The Palins gave over 10 times what Biden did, percentage-wise, though that was still just 2% in 2007 and 3.8% in 2006.  They donated much more money than the Bidens with only half the income.

Too bad the media didn’t lead with that story in 2008.

A truly inconvenient truth: Al & Tipper Gore donated $353 of their 1997 income of $197,729, or 0.18%.  That is a fraction of 1%.  I wonder if he’s making real donations now that he’s getting rich off the AGW fraud?

More Liberal Scrooges (read the whole article at the link – it is priceless).

Andrew Cuomo

Cuomo was a homeless advocate throughout the 1990s, but according to his own tax returns he made no charitable contributions between 1996 and 1999. In 2000 he donated a whopping $2,750. In 2004 and 2005, Cuomo had more than $1.5 million in adjusted gross income but gave a paltry $2,000 to charity.

Cuomo made no charitable contributions in 2003, when his income was a bit less than $300,000.

Barack Obama — wow, a whole percent!  Hope and change, baby.

Barack Obama has a rather poor track record when it comes to charitable contributions. He consistently gave 1 percent of his income to charity. In his most charitable year, 2005, he earned $1.7 million (two and a half times what George W. Bush earned) but gave about the same dollar amount as the President.

John Kerry

Senator John Kerry likewise has a poor record. In 1995 he gave zero to charity, but did spend $500,000 to buy a half stake in a seventeenth century painting. In 1993, he gave $175 to the needy.

Ted Kennedy, champion of the poor

Senator Ted Kennedy has clearly relished his role over the years as a liberal Robin Hood. He once told Al Hunt of the Wall Street Journal, “I come from an advantaged life, and I’ll be goddamned if I’m going to get re-elected to the U.S. Senate by taking food out of the mouths of needy children.” But this should not be confused with Senator Kennedy actually giving much money to needy children.

. . . With a net worth of more than $8 million in the early 1970s and an income of $461,444 from a series of family trusts, Senator Robin Hood gave barely 1 percent of his income to charity. The sum is about as much as Kennedy claimed as a write-off on his fifty-foot sailing sloop Curragh.

But the poverty pimps give loads, right?  Uh, not exactly:

Jesse Jackson has often claimed that he operates from a “liberal spirit of compassion and love” while conservatives are “heartless and uncaring toward the silent poor.” But according to his publicly-released tax returns, he regularly donates less than 1 percent to charity.

Not surprisingly, while the political ideology of conservatives isn’t driven by redistributing the wealth of others, they are far more generous.  Even FDR was a cheap giver:

This evidence of liberal hypocrisy is damning enough, but what really amazes is how poorly these liberals do in comparison to so-called “heartless conservatives.” President Ronald Reagan, for instance, was often called heartless and callous by liberals. Unlike Roosevelt or JFK, Reagan was not a wealthy man when he became president. He had no family trust or investment portfolio to fall back on.

And yet, according to his tax returns, Reagan donated more than four times more to charity — both in terms of actual money and on a percentage basis — than Senator Ted Kennedy. And he gave more to charities with less income than FDR did. In 1985, for example, he gave away 6 percent of his income.

George W. Bush and Dick Cheney have continued this Reagan record. During the early 1990s, George W. Bush regularly gave away more than 10 percent of his income. In 2005, Vice President Dick Cheney gave away 77 percent of his income to charity. He was actually criticized by some liberal bloggers for this, who claimed he was getting too much of a tax deduction.

These Liberal leaders preach about generosity but they are hypocrites and fakes.  They want to take from neighbor A to give to neighbor B — while taking their commission, of course — and consider it charity on their part.  And they have plenty of confused and/or fake religious folks helping them, including the Methodist leader who thinks the proposed health care bill — which includes taxpayer-funded abortions — is in the spirit of the Good Samaritan.

Save this link to show those who claim that Liberal leaders really care about others. Even if their voting didn’t lead to wildly counterproductive results, whatever it is, it isn’t giving on their part.

And don’t be like them! Lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven by giving wisely to advance God’s kingdom. You won’t regret it.

A great summary of the Covid fiasco

Here is a thorough summary of what really happened, why Fauci should be in jail, and, as if you need more reasons, why you should never trust Democrats or the media. An enemy of our country designed this virus with some of our money, it has caused trillions of $ in losses and incalculable damage to people, and the villains tried to cover it up. And they almost succeeded. Will anyone learn from this?

Source: It’s Clear Now Anthony Fauci Isn’t A Fool, He’s A Villain

On Jan. 1, 2020, Fauci received a credible warning from a professor at the Scripps Research Institute, Kristian Anderson, that some of SARS-COV-2’s features “(potentially) look engineered” and that she and her colleagues “all find the genome inconsistent with expectations from evolutionary theory.”

Fauci later blasted the “lab origin theory” as completely uncredible, leading the entire media-industrial complex to deride theories of bio-engineering or even the idea the virus might have leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. His assurance, despite now finding it safe to backtrack on saying he’s “not completely confident” of SARS-2’s natural origin, was doubtless a major factor in Facebook banning posts supporting the lab origin theory.

That’s just one among many lies he’s spun since SARS-COV-2 reached our shores. It was clear from almost the beginning that Fauci was not just a benevolent science bureaucrat “trying to figure it out,” not just a bumbling idiot, but someone willing to put the entire nation through a punishing social and medical experiment, to gaslight the public time and time again to keep it going, and then bask in the sycophancy of Democratic Party lawmakers and the media while millions suffered needlessly. That’s the sort of thing we expect from the villains of political thrillers, not well-intentioned public servants who are just trying to “follow the science.”

Students 100 years from now might be forgiven for thinking Fauci was an invented boogeyman. Deceit is a classic character trait of fictional antagonists, and Fauci is, as one popular (now Twitter-banned) lockdown skeptic put it, a “one-man highlight reel of mendacity.”

Leftism literally causes mental disorders

And I mean literally literally.

This has gone on for decades, with Leftists pushing abortion and insisting that it causes no guilt for women. But unless you are a psychopath, you can’t kill another human being – let alone your own child — without psychological consequences. People will try to repress the guilt, but there is a reason that great works of fiction such as Crime and Punishment, Macbeth and The Telltale Heart explore the theme of people trying to rationalize their sins yet failing to do so.

Then there is the “trans” craze, where Leftists actually encourage children to destroy their bodies and their fertility by undergoing radical medical treatments and surgeries. And in purely Satanic moves they block parents from getting their children counseling to overcome their delusions and they try to silence anyone who dares to state the obvious about this mental illness.

Then there is the impact of the climate change hoax, where the Leftists pretend that we can control the earth’s temperature with a virtual thermostat while ignoring that they have no plans to deal with China, India or Russia, who have no intention to derail their economics because the earth might be getting a little warmer.

Witness the congresswoman who is not only gullible and dense but an atrocious parent: ‘The Earth Is On Fire And We’re All Going To Die Soon’: Dem Rep Pleads With Thunberg For Advice For Her Panicked 9-Year-Old Daughter | The Daily Wire. Why didn’t the mother just tell her that it is a political power-grab and nothing to lose sleep over? She could point out how Bill Gates just bought a $43 million beach house and how countless “woke” celebrities buy beach properties as well. They obviously have no fear of rising oceans, and neither should the 9 year old. Oh, and why would you ask a slow-witted 18 yr. old puppet for parenting advice?

Finally, witness how CNN has been caught on video admitting that they deliberately increase fear in their audience for profit: Project Veritas: CNN Insider Admits They Hyped COVID Death Toll, It’s “Gangbusters For Ratings” | Video | RealClearPolitics. Got that? Those kind, loving Leftists are deliberately driving people into mental illness just to make a few more dollars. And yet they stereotype Conservatives as the greedy ones. I know otherwise smart and logical people who are still distancing and wearing masks even though vaccinated, and they concede that they don’t know when they’ll be able to live normally again. So many people suffered despair and crushing loneliness because of the superfluous lock-downs. But the Left didn’t care, because the elites didn’t miss a thing.

Liberalism is a mental disorder, and in its malevolence it literally causes mental disorders.

Update: Great timing — now there is this: Progressive white women report high levels of mental illness in 2020 Pew survey | WINTERY KNIGHT

Leftists do NOT care about children

They don’t care if you crush and dismember them before they are born. In fact, their #1 goal is ensuring that it is legal to do that to their first breath and that you be forced to pay to have others kill their children.

If they are born, they don’t care if the children have fathers in the home, even though that is devastating for families.

Once the children are born, the Leftists only care about unrestricted access to brainwash and pervert your children and to subvert your rights to parent them properly. And they want you to pay for the brainwashing.

The “trans” craze is the latest example. Deep down everyone knows you can’t change your sex and that even trying is just rebellion against God. The Leftist ghouls want to hurry up and destroy these children before they grow out of the social contagion phase. They won’t be there to comfort the children when they realize what horrible mistakes they’ve made.

Never Let Leftists get away with the “white supremacist” canard

The latest serial lie in the Leftist playbook is to call anyone on the right a white supremacist. Just note their latest talking points. But never let them get away with that slander. Just respond like this to any charges of racism or white supremacy:

Unrestricted abortions are the #1 priority of the Left, and they kill black children at a rate three times that of whites. If advocating for that isn’t racism and “white supremacy” then nothing is.

And if that doesn’t shut them up, feel free to bring up how Republicans support school choice that disproportionately helps blacks, how illegals take the jobs of low-income blacks and suppress the wages of remaining jobs, how Democrats just use them for votes but haven’t really done anything for them, how despite the media lies the police kill whites as often as blacks, they want to disarm blacks so they can’t defend themselves while the elite Leftists have armed guards, they try to destroy successful conservative blacks, they are proven to talk down to blacks whereas conservatives do not, etc.

As Thomas Sowell said, the Left did what slavery and oppression could not: Destroy the black family.

I almost went back on facebook . . .

But I just can’t handle the stupid.

I’ve toyed with getting back on, mainly for convenience of certain things that are only on FB (a few communications things), but when I was logged on to my wife’s account this weekend to check something I saw too many depressingly stupid posts by some of her FB friends.

One was a rather ironic meme about how people couldn’t believe Trump was elected after making fun of the disabled reporter. Of course several people chimed in with righteous indignation and Trump Derangement Syndrome to agree with the person who posted it There were a few sizable problems with all this.

  1. It never happened. Even though wolves like Rachel Held Evans were debunked for repeating that vicious lie, it is still being spread four years later by the ignorant and/or malicious.
  2. Since it is truly fake news and violates the written standards of Facebook and Twitter, why don’t they delete those memes and block the accounts of those who post it? Oh, right, shameless hypocrisy.
  3. Even if Trump mocked the disabled reporter, which is worse, making fun of someone or killing them? The Trump haters are pro-abortion zealots who rejoice that abortion can reduce Down Syndrome cases, for example, by killing children with it before they are born. The person posting the meme actually has a special needs child but doesn’t realize the incongruity of her belief system. So Trump didn’t make fun of the disabled person but these people ghoulishly let the unborn be killed because of their disabilities – or any other reason! Because love is love, right?
  4. These ignorant Leftists know nothing about Biden’s evils (his lies about the accident that killed his first wife and child, the way he married he current wife, how he called someone fat for daring to ask him a real question, how he sold out U.S. interests to China, and so much more).

So I’m going to stay off of FB for now.

Free trade only works where there is trust

All other things being equal, free trade is ultimately phenomenal for countries and individuals.  Using money as a medium of exchange, I trade my finance/accounting/leadership skills and experience with people who are good at making groceries, building cars, giving dance lessons, etc.  Win-win.

But the key part is about things being equal.  When one party – let’s say, China – has the system rigged in their favor by world trade organizations, is manifestly corrupt and evil, steals from you, spies on you, lies to you about pandemics, abuses their citizens, has no free speech, etc., then things are obviously not equal.  It would be foolish to continue to buy, say, 95% of your antibiotics from them.  Keep in mind that they are so evil that NBA players, coaches and leaders will criticize Trump 24×7 but punish anyone daring to offer the mildest criticism to China.

So this was good to read: Coronavirus pressures US manufacturers to bring plants home from China:

The COVID-19 pandemic has America rethinking its reliance on China for not only key medical supplies but production capacity in general after Beijing clamped down on exports of critical items used to combat the disease. . . .

“One of the things that has happened with this pandemic is it’s revealed to everybody the limits to our digital superiority and our software and all the things that we’ve innovated in technology,” Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., told FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo. “You still have to be able to make things. You still have to have industry and industrial capacity as a country. And we’ve given a lot of it away.”

Indeed, only about 11 percent of U.S. gross domestic product comes from manufacturing today, down from almost 40 percent in 1945. . . .

Although cheaper Chinese labor remains a factor in companies’ decisions to make their products in that country, it’s not the advantage it once was, Freeman said. Instead, China lures companies with tax breaks and other incentives, as well as the appeal of its domestic market.

That’s one of the many reasons that Trump’s tax cuts were so important.  When countries have lower taxes that often swings  financial decisions.  Back in the 90’s Compaq sent tons of business to Singapore because their tax rate was zero while the U.S. rate was 35%.  That meant that even if you got free labor, buildings, machines, etc. it would still be more profitable to build in Singapore than the U.S.  Our corporate tax rate doesn’t need to be zero, but keeping it lower will remain important if we want jobs back.

President Trump has repeatedly called on U.S. companies to bring their operations back home, moves that would likely provide a spark to a labor force that has over the past four weeks seen 22 million workers lose their jobs, at least temporarily.

That’s one more reason the Left will fight the obvious.  Although temporarily the Democrats realized they need to have their Joe Biden Talking Doll (TM) pretend to be harder on China than Trump has been.  Of all their lies, that is a grand one.  Anyone paying attention knows how hard he has been on them long before Covid-19 and how Biden has been in bed them for a long time.

He believes the COVID-19 experience will cause many companies to “rethink the safety and security of reliance on global markets,” and that there will inevitably be some movement of capital-intensive — not labor intensive — production back to the U.S. . . .

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce “supports a robust commercial relationship with China,” he added, but also understands the “need for some rethinking of that relationship.

I quit trusting the Chamber of Commerce years ago.  Those “Republicans” are the ones who brought us ridiculous levels of illegal immigration.  The Dems get the votes and these country club Republicans got cheap labor.

Rubio agrees. He told Bartiromo that the current level of U.S. dependence on China’s industrial capacity has put our country “in a very dangerous situation.”

“I hope that one of the things that will come about now is a broad consensus in this country that we have to be able to make things in the United States,” he said.

The same goes for oil and gas.  Fracking and such has been one of the greatest wins in our history, as it has provided jobs and reduced dependence on foreign oil.  Guess which side fights that 24×7?

I’d gladly pay more for clothes and such knowing that it created jobs in the U.S.  I hope we do bring a lot back from China.

Various lessons from the Chinese virus crisis

The past few weeks have been like a bad movie made by 2nd graders, but you are chained to the chair and can’t stop watching.

As I like to say on good days and bad, it is a great day to be a Christian.  But it is especially great during a personal or societal crisis.  We know that our Redeemer lives.  Our #1 problem in life – being rebellious sinners against an omnipotent and perfectly holy God — was solved by our Savior.  If we focus on him we can continue to live with joy.

Empty shelves and hoarding were newsworthy because they were such an anomaly in our great capitalistic country. But that’s daily life with socialism and communism.

Will people learn to save more for emergencies or will the government “giving” them money reinforce the fiction that all your big problems will be solved by them?

Leftists think Trump is Hitler 2.0 and they criticize him 24×7 in the most vicious terms while the real despots are in Socialist / Communist countries: Chinese tycoon vanishes after calling Xi a ‘clown,’ slamming government’s handling of COVID-19.  Short of making death threats, no one has been arrested in the U.S. for hating on Trump.

Predictably, the Left has exploited the virus to harm Trump, but all you need to know is that Biden criticized Trump for banning travel from China.  That foolish move alone shows that he is incompetent and malicious.  The same goes for anyone else on the Left: If they ever accused Trump of overreacting with the China travel ban or anything else, they need to shut up.

We must be less reliant on other countries for our basic needs. Why would you source over 90% of key medicines from a sworn enemy?

We must protect our borders, and anyone who still opposes that Is doing it from malice. Before it might have been from ignorance, but no longer.

I don’t mind the government making suggestions, but I don’t like the fact that they can mandate against our right to free assembly. That’s a bad habit to get into.  I appreciate churches erring on the side of safety, but I don’t want the government telling me I can’t assemble however I like.  Just say no to more government power in this pandemic:

Let’s not give the government more power to dictate our lives, even during a pandemic. Common sense isn’t a government-forced lockdown of life. It is reducing regulations so companies can get a vaccine out quicker to the general populace and not telling private labs to stop testing if they have found a way to detect the virus.

We don’t need to embrace socialism or a top-heavy approach to fighting a pandemic, temporary or not. ‘Temporary’ tends to become long-term in the hands of the government.

And does anyone think these government leaders shared in the suffering for any shortages?

Oh, then there’s this: Illinois Mayor Grants Herself Power to Ban Guns During Coronavirus Pandemic.  Leftists would never abuse that, would they?

Hopefully people find some new and long-lasting habits.  Maybe they’ll realize that they don’t need to spend so much time tracking the exploits of athletes and celebrities and watching various sportsball events.  Hopefully they’ll use the time to exercise themselves.  Or that time with their kids can be fun and helpful to them.

I had to go on Facebook to watch our church’s live streaming (I borrow my wife’s account) and noticed many people sharing links to their church’s streaming services.  Hopefully some people who don’t otherwise attend church will check them out.  My Mom is a very committed Bible believer but is in a denomination that has drifted, so I was encouraged when she really enjoyed a link to our church’s site (45 minutes of outstanding expository preaching!).  Downside: More people probably watched Joel Osteen and the like [shudders].

I really hope people don’t cut back on their giving just because they aren’t attending in person.  This is not the time to shortchange God!

Hopefully more people will consider getting out of government schools!  Parents Worried They’ll Have To Raise Their Own Children As Government Schools Shut Down | The Babylon Bee

And maybe it will make more people reconsider traditional colleges.  Who needs wildly expensive campus experiences, where there is more debauchery than learning?  Just go online for a fraction of the cost.  The “greens” should be wild about online textbooks instead of paper, and they should be less expensive.  They can use recorded videos for most things and save lots of $$.

The company I work for had all non assembly/shipping/sales people work from home for now.  I’ve been working from home for years, so this wasn’t much of a change for me.  Half my team travels a lot and half is at our corporate offices, so the latter are getting used to working from home for a stretch.  Saving the time and stress of commuting is great!  I challenged them all with a simple mission: Be safe, innovative and productive.  So far, so good.

If the Leftist “green” movement was not hypocritical and haters of humanity, wouldn’t they be pushing aggressively for more work-at-home and home schooling options?  Look how much less traffic there is!  Home schoolers don’t sit outside schools with their engines idling mornings and afternoons dropping off and waiting for kids.  The Left should be thrilled with this, but they aren’t.   Because hypocrisy.

Yes, the Leftist / Deep State really are cheering this.

Finally, just remember that extended family time worked out great in The Shining.  Our kids are out of the house and Mrs. Eternity Matters is used to me working at home.  But here are some ideas if you have young ones: Activities While Being “Stuck” at Home

Whether good times or bad, always make the best of everything.  Enjoy the time.  Read the Bible and pray more.  Memorize Bible verses.  Exercise.  Make new good habits.

Be blessed!

Responding to the phony “wage gap” argument

First, here are the facts about that mythical wage gap that Leftists maliciously and/or ignorantly use to appeal to low-information voters:

1. There is no real wage gap when you factor in experience and skills.
2. There are already laws in place, so if there was a real gap you would have recourse.
3. A massive government bureaucracy to fine-tune the mythical gap would be incredibly costly, inefficient and prone to corruption.
4. Ever notice how feminists ignore the male “domination” of trash collectors, lawn care workers, construction workers, miners and other dangerous and/or more demanding jobs?
5. If there really was a gap then the market would correct for it. Oh, you don’t want to pay qualified women or minorities market wages? Great, I’ll hire them all and kick your butt in the marketplace! As always, you are welcome to start your own business and “fix” the problem. Oh, but that’s hard work . . . never mind.

So don’t be a sucker. There is no wage gap.

Better yet, whenever people bring up the phony wage gap, just play dumb and say, “You’re right, the safety gap is a very serious issue. So many men are injured and killed because they have more dangerous jobs than women. We need to do something about it!”

Or pick one of these topics to make the same point, or rattle off a bunch of them, to show that the real victims are usually men.  Play out the conversation as they squirm.  Ask why the media doesn’t report on that, why people don’t protest to help these men, where are the social media memes, etc.

Religious pluralism is intellectually bankrupt

One of my old favorites . . .

pluralism.jpg

There are two main kinds of religious pluralism.  One is good and one is intellectually bankrupt.

Good pluralism: Numerous distinct ethnic, religious, or cultural groups are present and tolerated within a society.

Bad pluralism: All religions are true and equally valid paths to God.

Pluralism can be a good thing if it means we should tolerate the beliefs of others.  Jesus, who was God in flesh, didn’t force anyone to convert.  So why should we think that we can?

Christianity should flourish in a society with good pluralism, as the Gospel can be shared freely and there isn’t pressure to fake one’s beliefs.  Sadly, we often get complacent in such atmospheres and Christianity spreads just as well or better in times of persecution.  It tends to weed out false believers and teachers more effectively.

Of course, there are some truths in each religion, but there are irreconcilable differences in their essential truth claims regarding the nature of God, the path to salvation, their view of Jesus, etc.

Here are some examples:

One of the following is possible when we die, but under no circumstance could more than one be possible:

  1. Reincarnation (Hinduism, New Age)
  2. Complete nothingness (Atheism)
  3. One death then judgment by God (Christianity, Islam, others)

Jesus was either the Messiah (Christianity) or He was not the Messiah (Judaism and others), but He cannot be both the Messiah and not the Messiah.

God either doesn’t exist (Atheism), He exists and is personal (Christianity) or He exists and is impersonal (Hinduism).

Jesus either died on the cross (Christianity) or He didn’t (Islam).  The Koran repeatedly claims that Jesus did not die on the cross (Sura 4:157-158). What evidence does Islam offer? One guy with a vision over 500 years after the fact. That is not what we base history upon, especially when scholars of the first century — whether Christians or not — agree that a real person named Jesus died on a Roman cross.

God either revealed himself to us (many religions) or he didn’t (Atheism, Agnosticism).

Jesus is the eternally existent God (Christianity) or He isn’t (everything else, including the Mormon and Jehovah’s Witness). In fact, in Islam it is an unforgivable sin to claim that Jesus is God, so there is no way to reconcile Christianity and Islam.

Some people hold the view that God will be whatever you conceive him to be in this life.  That is one of the most bizarre religious views I have heard.  I’m not sure how they came to the conclusion that every human gets a designer god and that at death it would be just as one wished.

Consider the view of Mahatma Gandhi and Hinduism in general:

After long study and experience, I have come to the conclusion that [1] all religions are true; [2] all religions have some error in them; [3] all religions are almost as dear to me as my own Hinduism, in as much as all human beings should be as dear to one as one’s own close relatives. My own veneration for other faiths is the same as that for my own faith; therefore no thought of conversion is possible. (Mahatma Gandhi, All Men Are Brothers: Life and Thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi as told in his own words, Paris, UNESCO 1958, p 60.)

Yet the exclusive claims of Christianity prove Gandhi’s worldview (that of Hinduism) to be false.  Among other things, the Bible claims at least one hundred times that Jesus is the only way to salvation.  It also commands us not to worship idols and that we die once and then face judgment (it does not hold to reincarnation).  Those are key elements of the Hindu faith.  So if Hinduism is true then Christianity cannot be true.  But if Hinduism is correct in stating that all religions are true, then Christianity must be true.  But Christianity claims to be the one true path, so if it is true then Hinduism is not.

Also, Hinduism claims that Christianity is true, so if Christianity is false then so is Hinduism.  Either way, the logic of Gandhi and Hinduism collapses on itself.

When I share the Gospel with people I do so as respectfully as possible.  But I always try to work in examples like the above to highlight that under no circumstances can we both be right about the nature of God and salvation.

I used to hold the position of religious pluralism.  We studied world religions about 15 years ago in an Adult Sunday School class and, sadly, didn’t dig very deep (I was attending church but not really a believer . . . at best I was “saved and confused”).  Most of us walked away thinking the religions were “all pretty much the same” and with no incentive to go out and make a case for Christianity.

So why did I – and so many people today, including Christians – embrace bad pluralism? I think it is typically out of a lack of clear thinking on the topic.  When you examine the essentials of these faiths it is not that hard to show how they are irreconcilable.

Political correctness and fear contribute as well.  It is easy to deny the exclusivity of Jesus (or the truth claims of whatever faith one follows) if one wants to avoid controversy.  But as unpopular as it is to make truth claims, it is really a rather logical thing to do.  The one claiming all religions are true needs to back up that claim with their evidence and logic.  Just rattle off a list of religions, sects and cults and ask why they are all true.  Just be careful saying things like, “Hinduism has a lot of sects.”  If you say it too quickly people will have surprised looks on their faces.

Sheer laziness is another factor.  Knowing enough about one’s faith to defend it in the marketplace of ideas is hard work.  Religious pluralism is a great excuse not to evangelize.

I expect many non-Christians to say that all paths lead to God, but it really bothers me when Christians do so.  They should meditate on this passage, among others:

Galatians 1:8-9 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!
