Gun-Free Restaurants Keep Drawing Armed Robbers —  Well, duh.  Criminals may not use elaborate spreadsheets to calculate risks, but they understand the basics of how to steal the most amount of money with the least chances of getting shot / caught.  You might want to avoid Jack-in-the-Box (no problem there!) and Chipotle (Noooooo!) until they reverse their silly politically correct policies.

You have to wonder if the CEO of Jack in the Box is kicking himself after making the decision to request all gun owners to leave their guns at home. It was not even 2 weeks ago that Jack in the Box essentially banned guns from their fast food joints, and now the third armed robbery has taken place since then.

It isn’t only employees who pay the price for these moronic signs that serve as magnets for armed robbers looking for sites of least resistance.

According to Click2Houston, 4 men put on gloves and masks before walking into a Houston Jack in the Box, robbing the restaurant at gunpoint. The armed crooks robbed both employees and customers who were eating at the fast food place.

Who would have thought that criminals would break the restaurant’s policy? But at least they did not have any law abiding gun owners to try and stop them and make their job more dangerous. These gun owners would have to either leave their guns at home or eat somewhere else.

For this to happen for the 3rd time in about 10 days has to make one wonder if armed criminals are just targeting Jack in the Box since they know law abiding citizens will not be armed there.

Specifically, the British study found that the incidence of abuse was an astounding 33 times higher in homes where the mother was cohabiting with an unrelated boyfriend than in stable nuclear families. Even when the boyfriend was the children’s biological father, the chances of abuse were twice as high.

These findings are consonant with those published a year earlier by Leslie Margolin of the University of Iowa in the journal Child Abuse and Neglect. Prof. Margolin found that boyfriends were 27 times more likely than natural parents to abuse a child. The next-riskiest group, siblings, were only twice as likely as parents to abuse a child.

More recently, a report by Dr. Michael Stiffman presented at the latest meeting of the American Academy of Pediatrics, in October, studied the 175 Missouri children under the age of 5 who were murdered between 1992 and 1994. It found that the risk of a child’s dying at the hands of an adult living in the child’s own household was eight times higher if the adult was biologically unrelated.

. . .Why, then, do we ignore the problem? Fagan has a theory: “It is extremely politically incorrect to suggest that living together might not be the best living arrangement.”

How Diet Soda Makes You Fat (and Other Food and Diet Industry Secrets) 

1. Diet sodas raised the risk of diabetes more than sugar-sweetened sodas!
2. Women who drank one 12-ounce diet soda had a 33 percent increased risk of type 2 diabetes and women who drank one 20-ounce soda had a 66 percent increased risk.
3. Women who drank diet sodas drank twice as much as those who drank sugar- sweetened sodas because artificial sweeteners are more addictive and are hundreds to thousands of times sweeter than regular sugar.
4. The average diet soda drinker consumes 3 diet drinks a day.

You might say that people who are overweight and just about to get diabetes drink more diet soda, but they scientifically controlled for body weight. And they found the artificial sweeteners increased diabetes independent of body weight!

This and other research shows how diet sodas make people fat and sick.

And that diet drinks may be even worse than regular sugar sweetened sodas!!

How does that happen?

• Artificial sweeteners are hundreds to thousands of times sweeter than regular sugar activating our genetically programmed preference for sweet taste more than any other substance.
• They trick your metabolism into thinking sugar is on its way. This causes your body to pump out insulin, the fat storage hormone, which lays down more belly fat.
• It also confuses and slows your metabolism down, so you burn less calories every day.
• It makes you hungrier and crave even more sugar and starchy carbs like bread and pasta.
• In animal studies, the rats that consumed artificial sweeteners ate more, their metabolism slowed, and they put on 14 percent more body fat in just two weeks – EVEN eating less calories.
• In population studies there was a 200 percent increased risk of obesity in diet soda drinkers.

I love Taylor Swift, I met her last summer. She is a wonderful person with great integrity.  I don’t think she knows about this research and I hope someone shares it with her so she can save millions of children and fans from drinking Diet Coke because she endorses it.

Bottom line:  There is no free ride.  Diet drinks are not good substitutes for sugar-sweetened drinks.  They increase cravings, weight gain, and type 2 diabetes. And they are addictive.

Bottom Line: The key point here is that all calories are NOT the same.  Swap out sugar and starch for good fats such as nuts, avocados, olive oil, and grass-fed animal products or wild fish.  Be a “qualitarian”.  Focus on quality, on real food and the rest takes care of itself.

Therefore, armed with this critical information, we can confidently conclude that since almost thirty percent of child sexual abuse is committed by homosexual or bisexual men — but less than 3% of American men self-identify as such — that homosexual or bisexual men molest children at 10 times the rate of heterosexuals. And this statistic is based upon the unlikely assumption of full reporting, meaning that the problem is probably worse than we know.

Agreement with Ehrman – Bart Ehrman makes a good living being an “ex-Christian.”  Yet as a textual critic he has a surprising number of points of agreements with us that are useful to remind atheists of when they parrot common sound bites.
