Roundup

Good news, for now: Great grandmother fires at mugger with legally-owned, legally-carried handgun.  But the politicians protected by people with guns all day, every day want to take away the rights of people to defend themselves.  If you think they just want to take away “assault” weapons (which is so broadly defined that it could include anything), then you are hopelessly naïve.  Once again, the 2nd Amendment is not about hunting.

More good news: Union Bosses’ Bad Week: Percentage of Americans Union-Free Now Highest in 70 Years.  If only the public sector didn’t have unions, we’d be doing much better.  What could go wrong with unions and politicians giving each other your money?

Unfortunately for taxpayers, though, the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ numbers do spell out the continuing dilemma that, in whole numbers, there are more government workers unionized (7.3 million) than those in the private sector (7 million). Yet, it is the private sector that pays the public sector’s salaries.

In any case, as it has been almost every year since 1983, this week in January was another bad week for union bosses.

Pastor Timothy on the  potential for the Boy Scouts to permit gay leaders – If BSA goes gay, we go away.

The same people that will mock the Boy Scouts for not taking gays will also mock them when boys are abused. It is so unfathomable how far we’ve sunk that people can’t see the obvious parallel: Should the Girl Scouts allow men to camp with girls?  Shame on the BSA Board for even considering this.

The Utter Absurdity of The Baby God-Man — I was reflecting on the same themes lately.  Our claims are indeed outrageous — but true!

The historical-biblical Christian faith is a bit ridiculous.

Many basic doctrines have a built-in absurdity to them that offends the natural mind.

Don’t believe me? Just have someone tell the elementary tenets of the Christmas story back to you:

“So the God of the universe gets a young virgin girl pregnant, she gives birth to His infant divine Son in a stable in the middle of nowhere, angels rejoice and hardly anyone else in the world notices?”

and then

“thirty years later this same God Man all of a sudden starts walking on water, multiplying food, and healing all diseases while claiming authority over everything in the world. Despite all this most people reject Him and He goes to a Roman cross to die a brutal death that shakes the earth. Then he raises Himself up from the dead through a tomb, walks and talks with people for a few days, and finally floats back up to heaven to be with the God that sent Him down here. Oh yeah, and this dude’s gonna come back with fire and stuff a second time?….

And I’m supposed to believe all that and follow Him right?”

To which we say: “Amen!”

. . . In the fourth century the Roman Emperor, Julian, equated Christianity with atheism and lamented over its influence:

“Atheism [I.e. the Christian faith!] has been specially advanced
through the loving service rendered to strangers, and through their care for the burial of the dead. It is a scandal that there is not a single Jew who is a beggar, and that the godless Galileans care not only for their own poor but for ours as well; while those who belong to us look in vain for the help that we should render them.”

I was just thinking the other day about how presumptuous it is to schedule a revival, then I saw this.

On Thursday one of my daughters and I were lamenting the seeker-sensitive church movement. As an example I noted how churches seem to find excuses to do dances during “worship” services to songs like Thriller.

The next day I came across this video of a church doing an elaborate production of Thriller, only with the Grinch thrown in. These people are beyond parody.  Hat tip: Museum of Idolatry.

Please give me a “boring” service in a plain building where the Bible is preached accurately verse-by-verse and theologically sound songs are done.

Admitted terrorist and Obama friend Bill Ayers to be keynote speaker at the Association of Teacher Educators.  Need any other reasons to get out of public schools?

He was involved in Chicago’s “Days of Rage” riot in 1969 and went underground as a fugitive from justice after an accidental Greenwich Village townhouse explosion in 1970 killed three Weather Underground members who were preparing a bomb that prematurely detonated.

Ayers admitted in a 2001 book that he participated in bombings of the New York City Police Department headquarters, the U.S. Capitol Building and the Pentagon in the early 1970s.

A sample of the wit and wisdom of Bill Ayers: “Kill all the rich people. … Bring the revolution home. Kill your parents.”

The avowed communist revolutionary Ayers is best known for grooming Barack Hussein Obama for office, as part of the same strategy of destroying America from within its own institutions that led him to abandon bombs for a career in education.

Republicans should ramp up efforts to combat voter fraud.  Obama might have won without the rampant fraud in many areas (sure, Obama got 100.00000% of the vote in countless precincts!), but their success in cheating will only embolden them now.  Do not be afraid of RINOs.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell says the Republican Party should abandon its efforts to curb voter participation through voter ID laws…

“The Republican Party should be a party that says, ‘We want everybody to vote,’ and make it easier to vote and give them a reason to vote for the party, not to find ways to keep them from voting at all.”

Lest anyone take this phony rhetoric at face value, I’ll translate: “Republicans had better not challenge us on systemic voter fraud, or out comes the race card yet again.”

Massive Rally in France against Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ Draws at Least 340,000; Poll Support for ‘Gay Marriage’ Plummets – It isn’t inevitable.  If only people would get better informed on how to make the case for real marriage!

Remember, media bias isn’t just what they tell you, it is what they don’t tell you.

  1. OK, the video about the grinch, was that a parody or did that really take place in a church? If so,… what does the Grinch, Michael Jackson, light shows or any of that other stuff have to do with worshipping a holy God? Sad…

  2. I’m not sure I like the idea of Christians publically abandoning the BSA over this policy. I understand the dilemma. However I think we are too often known for what we are against rather than what we are for.

But that is easy for me to say because I am not a parent of a scout.

I guess I am more for individuals abandoning the scouts as opposed to a public denouncing.

    1. Jeff, I’m not so much publicly standing against the BSA to be publicly standing against them. I’m telling them that to make the move would be detrimental to the welfare of the boys that come into the Scouts, and that I won’t be a participant in that. They need to know that their actions have consequences. It’s not about being public, but standing for what is right. They already made the fight public.

Sure. Maybe there’s a Boy Scouts alternative that Christians could switch to? Is there any organization that is like the Boy Scouts but is more likely to stand strong on questions like homosexuality? (If not, maybe there’s about to be, if the Boy Scouts take this step?)

      1. I don’t know how many churches have it, but I used to be a leader in the Christian Service Brigade when my son was a member. I don’t even know if the church we used to go to still has it (my son grew out of the “Battalion” in 1999). But it was very much like the scouts, but with a Christian focus.

    3. What I don’t get is why the BSA wants to turn right around and do this, mere months after winning a court case that affirmed their right to turn away homosexuals if they felt like it.

Up until now, the BSA has always pointed to its code that a Scout must be “morally straight,” an obvious reference to a number of Biblical verses that prohibit homosexual conduct. My question for the BSA: “What’s changed, exactly? The Bible hasn’t, and neither has your code of standards as far as I know. In fact, you guys won in court. So why are you now suddenly so interested in opening your ranks to gay Scouts and gay Scoutmasters?”

I don’t like the idea of my son going out in the woods with a gay Scout leader. I just don’t. I’ve heard too many things about a connection between homosexual inclinations and pederasty. I’m not saying all gays are child molesters….I am saying it seems like too high of a correlation to be mere coincidence.

  3. Grandma needs some target practice.

If the BSA goes through with it, I will no longer support the organization.

I’m always amused at the atheist who think Christian beliefs are absurd, all the while they think everything just spontaneously developed out of nothing, and then when something came from nothing it decided start “evolving” through random chance until it became a man.

The Museum of Idolatry has been one of my favorite sites – if you need a daily dose of apostasy or heresy, just to the museum.

Outlaw abortion and get rid of gun laws which restrict law-abiding citizens.

There now, you have my thoughts for the day. :oD

    1. Well Frank Turek and Norman Geisler titled their apologist book “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be An Atheist.” They build a systematic case in the book that it takes more faith to pretend God’s not there, than it does to accept that He is.

And yeah…odd, isn’t it? We want to ban guns because they kill a few kids each year as a result of accidents or some psycho going off the deep end…..but it’s perfectly okay to deliberately kill thousands of them each day at abortion clinics. I can’t even begin to get my head around that.

  4. I did my part by faxing and calling the ATE and demanding the Bill Ayers be canceled from the event. Please help by sending an email, fax or call using the text below or make your own.

    Email to: dritchey@ate1.org

(Dave is the Director o the ATE and Ann is the President of the ATE. Phones numbers in article above)

    Start…

Dear Ann Shelly and David Richey,

You have elected to schedule Bill Ayers to be a Keynote speaker at the 2013 Annual Meeting of the Association of Teacher Educators that will be held in Atlanta, Georgia. The theme implemented by you, the President of the ATE, is Living and Learning across a Lifetime.

You choice to have Mr. Ayers as a speaker is deplorable and in itself anti-American and sends a message of violence to educators and students. I ask you now to remove Bill Ayers from this event and all events regarding the ATE. You should cancel any membership he has.

Living and learning what? How to be a terrorist? How to get away with murder? How to hate America? What is the message you want the teachers to walk away with? It’s ok to be a terrorist and a mad bomber?

Talk about gun control. We should start at the teacher level about gun control and violence. Bill Ayers said; and I quote Ayers; “Kill all the rich people. … Bring the revolution home. Kill your parents.”

What are you thinking!? You can’t possibly be the same type of person as Bill Ayers, are you? Assuming you are not, then having a mean spirited anti-American terrorist being a speaker at this conference, spieling his hate to our young and to the teachers is deplorable to say the least! If you agree then cancel his speech and his membership. Otherwise it is assumed you are the same as Bill Ayers.

Must we follow the money? Bill Ayers controls the Annenberg Foundation which has over $300 million to disburse which is in itself an atrocity. Is the ATE receiving donations
    from the Annenberg Foundation?

I demand you to remove Bill Ayers from this event and all events
    regarding the ATE.

    Signed,,,

    1. With all the rest of the liberal propaganda spewed to our kids in the government school systems, Ayers is just a drop in the bucket. If you’re going to protest him, then we need to be at school almost every day (as I was before we pulled our kids out) speaking against the homosexual agenda, the envronmental agenda, the socialist agenda, the pro-abortion agenda, the “sex is a lot of fun, use a condom” agenda, etc, etc. etc,

  6. Have you ever heard of the “Perversion Files”? This is a blacklist with the names of Scout leaders that have been accused of sexual abuse over the past 100 years, which has been maintained by Scouting officials themselves. The officials have acknowledged the existence and legitimacy of this list, claiming to use it to keep those accused of molestation from entering the scouts again.

“For nearly a century, the Boy Scouts of America has relied on a confidential blacklist known as the “perversion files” as a crucial line of defense against sexual predators.

Scouting officials say they’ve used the files to prevent hundreds of men who had been expelled for alleged sexual abuse from returning to the ranks. They’ve fought hard in court to keep the records from public view, saying confidentiality was needed to protect victims, witnesses and anyone falsely accused.

“It is a fact that Scouts are safer because the barrier created by these files is real,” Scouts Chief Executive Robert Mazzuca said in video posted on the organization’s website in June.”

Nearly every single one of these child molesters were married, or once were, with one or more sons in the Boy Scouts. If the Boy Scouts have had the same anti-gay policy for the past 100 years, a policy that did nothing to prevent thousands (minimum) of cases of abuse. Why are so many of you denouncing the Boy Scouts now because of their policy change regarding gays, yet you whole heartedly supported them when it was married men and fathers molesting little boys? You have your sights set on the openly gay men, who will be well aware of the scrutiny they will receive and will undoubtedly act accordingly, when it should be on the heterosexual men that have been doing the molesting for the past century.

I feel like I’m stating the obvious here: If you have sex with someone of the same sex, then you aren’t purely heterosexual.

Anyone who hid abusers and kept them from justice should be in jail themselves.

  7. Jesus stated in Luke 17 that just before His return to earth as Judge, two big “crazes” will happen worldwide at the same time: (1) insane violence (“days of Noah”), and (2) outrageous sexual perversion (“days of Lot” – see Gen. 19). Aren’t beheadings, cannibalism, and school shootings violent? And what’s more perverted than a mob trying to rape LITERAL angels (see Gen. 19 again)?! So, America, keep spitting on God but you’d better duck when He spits back!! (PS – For a bigger enchilada, Google “when DIVERSITY becomes PERVERSITY.”)
