Oprah claims to be Christian and gives her “testimony” after many years of promoting her anti-Christian New Age views. The article gives credit to T.D. Jakes (?!) for helping her.
If you watch the video, that is a pretty lame “profession of faith.” At the 3:14 mark she emphasizes how she respects all religions, then shifts to some politically correct / New Age nonsense to describe her faith, such as “aligning with the values of tolerance, acceptance, harmony, cooperation and reverence for life” (even though, presumably, she is still pro-abortion). Of course we should respect people, but Christianity doesn’t teach us to respect false ideas.
2 Corinthians 10:5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ
She said, “If you are living in the space of an open heart you have a blessed life . . . There is no life without a spiritual life.” That is standard New Age / prosperity gospel messaging. She didn’t have one mention of the cross, sin, repentance, etc.
In true prosperity gospel style she says, “Are you ready to allow abundance and blessings . . .?” She says she became so successful because she “lived in the space of spirit her whole life.”
She said, “My favorite Bible verse — because I am a Christian — is Acts [pause] something [laughter] . . .” She forgot the chapter and verse of her favorite passage.
Interestingly, it was Acts 17:28, where Paul said “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are indeed his offspring.'” Paul was quoting a non-Christian writer who had made a generic comment about God, but he was using that to point to the exclusivity of Jesus and God’s command to repent and believe.
Her authentic spiritual state is between her and God, but I’m not seeing biblical fruit here.
