Campaign financing tidbits you may not hear about from the mainstream media:

1. Richest hedge fund managers gave 98% of contributions to Democrats

2. Gulf Oil Spill: Guess Who Was The Top BP Donation Recipient?

. . . do you think Obama will return the money as he goes on his demonization bender against BP? Will the media call for the return of the money? Will anyone on the Left whine about Obama being a big oil man, like they would if Bush was president? Yeah, right, on all three.

Obama was also the top recipient of Exxon Mobile money in 2008. And Chevron. Hmm.

Obama using the word “teabaggers” now — Classy.  Now why would someone committed to civil discourse use a completely irrelevant pejorative referring to a largely homosexual sex act?  Is he homophobic?

Why I hate the pill — interesting read on the not-well-communicated side effects.  Hat tip: Jill Stanek

The Bigotry of ‘Progress’ — well reasoned post on (oxymoronic) same-sex marriage by the Other McCain

Insofar as homosexuals sought only liberty and tolerance, they met little resistance, as even the most conservative Americans take pride in their “live and let live” attitude. Yet Americans balked when it was argued that the logical extension of such tolerance required recognition of homosexuality as the basis of a legal and political identity.

Amazingly stupid comments speculating on the identity of the Times Square bomber

So according to Bloomberg, Dreyfuss and Brewer, the profile of the guy who attempted to bomb Time Square was:

– Home Grown (born and/or raised and/or naturalized in the U.S.)

– Mentally Ill

– Has a Political Agenda (presumably against the Obama administration)

– Dislikes Obama’s Health Care bill

– Tea Party Member

– Anti-Government Right

– Bigotted against people from other countries and people with different skin colors

Weird.  It turns out that the guy in custody ACTUALLY fits THIS profile:

– From Pakistan and naturalized a year ago

– Received training in Waziristan

– Has political/religious agenda (against the U.S.)

– Hasn’t mentioned his opinion (and presumably doesn’t care) about Obama’s health care bill

– Hasn’t mentioned any support for (and presumably disagrees with) the Tea Party movement

– Is certainly anti-U.S. government, but not in the way they mean

– Seems to be bigoted against people in the U.S., no matter their skin color or background

Guest post: A Catholic says, “Thank God for the Protestants and Evangelicals.”

While I always contend that the Reformation happened for good reasons and they are still valid, I thoroughly enjoy LCB’s diplomatic and well-thought out comments. Therefore, I’m publishing this guest post of his. Dive in!

It’s been a rough few weeks to be Catholic. Really rough. “I wonder what’s going on with the Eastern Orthodox these days” type of rough. For many devout American Catholics (and I don’t mean the Nancy Pelosi type of devout) it’s been brutal. Worse than the “Long Lent” of 2002 (when the Boston Globe set off the scandal here in the States, as the period is often called in Catholic-shorthand). In this Easter season, for the first time in my life, I am thanking God for the Protestants and Evangelicals in general. Not just particular Protestants and Evangelicals (who I have been thankful for in the past), but the entire groups. I know a number of other Catholics who are feeling the same.

Central to the agony of the last few weeks has been a series of unrelenting and baseless attacks upon Pope Ratzinger. The media, unable to connect the man to wrongdoing, has instead adopted a policy of radical slander, ad hominem attacks, innuendo, and even outright lies. Run a false headline on the front page one day, print a small retraction of the entire story the next day on page Z-99, in 6 point font. Run a quote from a plantiff’s lawyer as if it were unbiased, only mention 30 paragraphs later (or not at all) that the man has made millions on sexual abuse lawsuits, and is currently trying to permit the Vatican to be sued in US court. I could go on. And on. And on.

The worst part has not been the Catholic Church’s liberal branch (AKA “The 5th Column”) who have gleefully joined in on the assaults. We’ve been living with them being the main quoted Catholic “balance” in AP and NYTs articles for two generations now. The worst part is that the media has been so brazen in attacking Catholicism that Catholics who are trying to defend against the attacks can’t manage to get any coverage at all. Bishops and Cardinals speak out to correct mistakes, no coverage. Bill Donahue screams something into a microphone (seriously, I like him, but he needs to learn about the “inside voice” rule), no coverage. Catholic intellectuals release detailed counter-points, no coverage or publication.

The pall of silence and non-coverage of authentic Catholic responses to the attacks has is so bad that the Catholic League has resorted to taking out a full page ad in the NYTs in order to present its rebuttal to the NYTs own coverage. Let that sink in for a minute. The only way Catholics can now reply to the NYTs hatchet jobs is by spending $50,000+ for a full page ad.

But there are voices that the MSM will listen to, and will still publish, and is even writing articles about. These voices are the Protestants and Evangelicals who are speaking out in defense of truth, who recognize that this assault is about much more than abuse that occured in Wisconsin in the 1950s. It’s about an attempt to silence a voice that speaks with moral authority. In the midst of this constant media assault the Protestants and Evangelicals are arriving on the field of battle (since, in the end, it remains we Christians vs. the World and its prince) even as our own 5th column is turning on us like never before. And the Protestants and Evangelicals are saying (quite loudly at times) “It is wrong to smear the good name of a good man who has a decades long reputation of trying to fight this problem. Smearing people with lies is wrong, and what you in the press are doing is wrong.”

It hasn’t just been in the media, either, where my fellow brethren in Christ have shown their dedication to Truth above all else. It’s been in a multitude of personal interactions and local sermons where good men and women have spoken out against what they see to be wrong. Where my voice is ignorned (“Oh you’re just a Catholic of course you’ll say that”) the voice of my brethren has been heard and they have given a mighty witness to Christ in the process.

Now UN Judges are calling for war crimes charges to be brought against Pope Ratzinger. Dawkins and Hitchens are funding a legal team to try and have a warrant issued against Pope Ratzinger before his visit to Britain… and they may likely find a sympathetic judge who will do just that. The charges? “Crimes against humanity” and a great many Anglicans are rising up in defense of the Pope (that’s a sentence one doesn’t type every day) on this matter.

So, for the first time in my life, I am saying “Thank God for the Protestants and Evangelicals.” Not just particular individuals, but for the groups entirely. The witness of standing up for what is right is a mighty witness for Christ– especially in this Easter season. It’s been a long road since October 1517. The attacks and persecutions against the whole of Christianity have consistantly brought the brethren closer together in Roman Times, under the Ottomans, during the French Revolution, in the Soviet Union, and in modern China. In times and places of great trial Christians with extreme doctrinal divides have united in defending Truth and presenting the Gospel of Christ and His saving love to the world in ways that have radically changed history.

It is my sincere prayer that, just as Christ’s suffering on His Most Holy Cross brought about mankind’s unity with one another (in the Body of Christ, the Church) and with God the Father in and through the power of the Holy Spirit, that so too may our current suffering bring about greater unity among we separated brethren and bring about the conversion and salvation of many souls throughout the world. Especially those that seek to attack Christ and the Church.

I enjoyed this analysis of John MacArthur’s preaching.  I listen to his Podcast almost every day and learn a lot.  I go to a Methodist church but appreciate Reformed preaching as well — I suppose I’m just one of those wacky open-minded religious liberals!

Why do so many people listen to MacArthur, this product of all the wrong schools? How can he pack out a church on Sunday morning in an age in which church attendance has seriously lagged? Here is a preacher who has nothing in the way of a winning personality, good looks, or charm. Here is a preacher who offers us nothing in the way of sophisticated homiletical packaging. No one would suggest that he is a master of the art of oratory. What he seems to have is a witness to true authority. He recognizes in Scripture the Word of God, and when he preaches, it is Scripture that one hears. It is not that the words of John MacArthur are so interesting as it is that the Word of God is of surpassing interest. That is why one listens.

Black conservative Tea Partiers — turns out that they do exist, even though they get savaged with all kinds of pathetic personal attacks for their independent thinking.

AP Notices Black TEA Partiers Called Racist Names, But, It’s Not Racism, Cause They’re Conservatives — That’s the MSM way: Unsubstantiated claims of racism by Tea Partiers = real racism.  Substantiated claims of racism by Liberals = not racism.

Threats of violence by the loving, kind folks at Greenpeace (HT: Red State)

If you’re one of those who have spent their lives undermining progressive climate legislation, bankrolling junk science, fueling spurious debates around false solutions, and cattle-prodding democratically-elected governments into submission, then hear this:

We know who you are. We know where you live. We know where you work.

Think you’ll be hearing about these threats of violence on the MSM?

Non-Christian quotes about abortion — nice summary by Reason to Stand.  Be sure to check out that blog, it is excellent!  I especially liked this quote.  Even the world’s bloodiest religion is better grounded on abortion than the Left:

You shall not kill your awlad [born or unborn children] due to fear of poverty. We provide for them, as well as for you. Killing them is a gross offence. Quran 17:31

Dear Liberal friends,

How often did you see this clip of President Obama tripping?  How many times would you have seen it if it had been President Bush?

We now conclude this reminder that the MSM is hopelessly biased.

Conservative friends

Why do so many believe in fake conspiracies yet ignore the real global warming fraud?

Lisa Simpson: According to Junior Skeptic magazine the chances are 175 million to one of another form of life actually coming into contact with ours.

Homer: So?

Lisa: It’s just that the people who claim they’ve seen aliens are always pathetic low-lifes with boring jobs . . . oh, and you, Dad . . . heh heh.

An Apologetics.com Podcast on logic mentioned how over 70% of people polled believe in some sort of JFK conspiracy, over 30% believe that 9/11 was an inside job and a large amount believe the government is covering up alien activity.

So why don’t people get excited over the very real conspiracy behind the man-made global warming fraud?  The media continues to ignore it.  The Houston Chronicle had an article buried that noted the controversy but focused on the “experts” who still claim that warming is real — you know, the folks whose livelihoods depend on perpetuating the myth.  The Chronicle didn’t bother to list the evidence. Another article didn’t even mention the controversy.

If you only get your news from the mainstream media you are being fooled daily.

Great points by Ann Coulter:

These e-mails aren’t a tempest in a teapot. They are evidence of pervasive fraud by a massively influential institution that has dominated news coverage of global warming.

CRU was regularly cited as the leading authority on “global climate analysis” — including by the very news outlets that are burying the current scandal, such as The New York Times and The Washington Post. The CRU alone received more than $23 million in taxpayer funds for its work on global warming.

. . .

Most disturbingly, the CRU-affiliated “scientists” were caught red-handed conspiring to kill the careers and reputations of scientists who dissented from the religion of global warming. Indignant that scientific journals were publishing papers skeptical of global warming, the cult members plotted to get editors ousted and the publications discredited.

This sabotage of global warming dissenters may be more galling than their manipulation of the data. Until now, the global warming cult’s sole argument has been to demand that everyone shut up in response to the “scientific consensus” that human activity was causing global warming.

People with ‘no religion’ gain on major denominations — But as with most polls, you have to dig to determine what is really going on.  This does not mean that the % claiming to be atheists has increased:

The percentage of atheist Nones — who say there’s no such thing as God — hasn’t budged in years. “It’s not as though dozens of people at the Methodist Church read (atheist Richard) Dawkins and suddenly decided God doesn’t exist,” says Kosmin.

“There are so many misconceptions about who the Nones are. They’re not New Age searchers or spiritual or even hardened atheists,” says Kosmin.

“They’re a stew of agnostics, deists and rationalists. They sound more like Thomas Jefferson and Tom Paine. Their very interesting enlightenment approach is like the Founding Fathers’ kind: Skeptical about organized religion and clerics while still holding to an idea of God.”

Coming soon to a country near you: Woman gets police visit after writing letter protesting gay pride parade

After witnessing a gay pride march, committed Christian Pauline Howe wrote to the council to complain that the event had been allowed to go ahead.

But instead of a simple acknowledgement, she received a letter warning her she might be guilty of a hate crime and that the matter had been passed to police.

Playing the What if Bush had done it? game that highlights media inconsistencies is easy.  But it isn’t just the normal media bias, it is the pressure to prop up their creation.

. . . the press has a story line that they have to defend.  If Obama gets exposed as a flop, and worse as a typical Chicago pol, then it makes their failure to properly vet Obama during the primaries that much more clear.  In a sense, they created Obama, and his collapse would be their collapse as well.

Victory: Abortion/Obama graphics displayed at liberal bastion Berkeley — very effective displays shown at a wildly Liberal campus.  Hopefully it wakes some people up to what abortion really does.  Caution: Very graphic.

As if we needed more proof, President Obama lied about abortion not being in the health care “plan.”  Turns out he was playing a Clintonian game where he was referring to a plan that didn’t exist, rather than the real plan.  And why is is that I should trust him?  Hat tip: Verum Serum

You have got to be kidding me: Democrats Vote To Give ACORN Regulatory Authority Over Financial Institutions ?!?!?!

These are the same organizations that pressured banks to make subprime mortgage loans and thus bear a major responsibility for the collapse of the housing market.

In light of recent evidence linking ACORN to possible criminal activity, Democrats took an unprecedented step today to give ACORN a potential role alongside bank regulators in overseeing financial institutions.  This is contrary to recent actions taken by the Senate and House to block federal funds to ACORN.

A recent inquiry into bank funding of ACORN activities by three House Committees found that institutions that would be regulated by the CFPA have provided millions of dollars to the organization in the form of direct donations, lines of credit, cash, and other assets over the last 15 years.

Chris Matthews of MSNBC fantasizes about Rush Limbaugh being murdered.  But Rush is the mean guy, of course.

Other media outlets smear Rush with lies from Wikiquote and elsewhere.  Great fact-checking, guys.  But they are the real journalists, eh?

Great point by Red State:

You know, it says something pathetic about the left that Rush Limbaugh has been on the air 3 hours a day, 49 weeks a year, for over 20 years and they have to resort to made up quotes to hurt him and his business endeavors.

Oh, and here’s some real racist quotes by Democrats.  If the MSM grandstanded on them the same way they did on fake quotes for Limbaugh that would be an improvement.

We’ve got CNN fact-checking Saturday Night Live skits but not transparently false quotes attributed to Rush Limbaugh.  It is a self-parody.

P.S. No, I don’t listen to Rush’s show.  Never have, despite the assumptions of most Liberals I come across.  But I know media bias when I see it.  Rush is obviously part entertainer, but from everything I’ve read he is more of a journalist than anyone in the CNN / MSNBC / etc. crowd.  For example, Rush knew about the ACORN scandal and publicized it before Charles Gibson and the rest of the MSM.

Richard Dawkins and the Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve in giraffes — Dawkins “knows” that no intelligent designer would have ever done that.  I imagine that Dawkins already has a list of excuses to use when it is determined that there are good reasons for the nerve to be designed as it is. Just as the evolutionists did when it turned out that Junk DNA was not so junky, they’ll spin it to support evolution regardless of what their theory allegedly predicted or supported.  And it is so predictable and almost cute when Dawkins’ acolytes run around sharing their new “proof” of evolution and “rebuttal” of ID.

Ann Coulter nails the Afghanistan situation and Obama’s duplicity.  A few snippets:

What Obama really needs to do is: Invent a time machine, go back to the 2008 presidential campaign and not say, over and over and over again, that Afghanistan was a “war of necessity” while the war in Iraq was a “war of choice.” (Oh, and as long as you’re back there, ditch Van Jones, Valerie Jarrett and that gay “school safety” czar.)

But Democrats couldn’t care less about military strategy — at least any “strategy” that doesn’t involve allowing soldiers to date one another. To the extent you can get liberals to focus on national security at all, you will find they are rooting against their own country.

Any fanatic who hated the Great Satan, owned an overnight bag and was not already working for The New York Times was lured across the border into Iraq … to be met by the awesome force of the U.S. military. Bush chose the battlefield that made the best flytrap for Islamic crazies and also that was most amenable to regime change.

Brave Iranian students who protested the tyrant Ahmadinejad did so because of Iraq — and then they stopped because of Obama’s indifference. Sadly for them, America’s foreign policy will now be based on a calculus of political correctness, not national security.

The State of Illinois refused to let citizens purchase the “Adopt — Choose life” license plate.  The case was appealed to the Supreme Court, which refused to hear it.  I don’t know the legal particulars, but I am disappointed at just how transparently pro-abortion the “pro-choice” groups are in Illinois.  If they are really pro-choice, why wouldn’t they be glad to see those license plates out there?  The license plates concede that there is a legal choice and simply encourage people to consider a choice other than abortion.

More fossil marketing— “Ardi” is just (bad) capitalism in action.  The Ida fossil, while a truly spectacular find, turned out to be an overblown embarrassment with respect to the “missing link” schtick.  It had a very effective marketing approach that earned some people big $$ before everyone realized how over-hyped it was.

Oh, and of course, macro-evolution is totally as well documented as gravity, even though they keep finding “missing” links (I didn’t know gravity had missing links, but hey, I’m not a scientist.).

“You know the old story about free milk and a cow? Make up your mind to keep the cow in the barn.”— a current and candid analysis of some always timely advice.

Absolutely amazing, even for the grossly biased mainstream media: CNN criticized SNL for a skit about Obama!  But hey, I remember them fact-checking all the Palin skits as well . . . or do I?  At least the White House was smart enough not to comment.

Media bias in the health care debate

Dem. Shill as ‘Attendee’ in Obama’s Healthcare Townhall Audience : Stop The ACLU — Another planted question from a politician.  We know the media died in2008, but I was hoping they have a little bit of a resurrection.  Apparently not.

Worse yet was ABC’s commercial during the Laker’s game last night.  It was a breathless promo of how Obama would answer all your questions about this important topic on an upcoming show.  But it was obvious that they thought that whatever he said it would be wonderful.  I can’t imagine them doing that for Bush or any other President.

But it will only cost $600,000,000,000 more in taxes to get far worse service, so don’t worry yourself about this.
