I’m a big fan of short naps. When I can work them in I feel better and get more done. Long naps aren’t as effective, as I wake with a “sleep hangover.” See Famous Nappers: 8 Men Who Napped for some interesting stories.

The parable of the Good Samaritan is timeless and often told by Bible-believing Christians and by theological Liberals. The meaning of the passage hinges on the definition of two words: Neighbor and love.
Abortion fails badly on both counts.
All Christians should oppose abortion. (OK, everyone should oppose the killing of innocent but unwanted human beings, but Christians should be universally anti-abortion).
A common pro-choice sound bite is that “Government should stay out of our bedrooms.” It is an emotional play on the theme of privacy, but the logic is poor for several reasons.
I don’t know of any abortions that occur in bedrooms. I’m pretty sure that most take place at abortion clinics. Rape, incest, pedophilia, murders, thefts and a host of other crimes can occur in bedrooms, but I don’t hear anyone suggesting that the government ignore those.
I realize those items were taking the claim literally, but the pro-choice reasoning also fails in a figurative sense. Groups that claim to want the government out of bedrooms sure have cashed a lot of government checks for “educating” our youth on sexually related matters. Planned Parenthood and the like appear to have a great deal of interest in your bedroom activities and those of your children, and they crave and receive massive government funding and do their best to destroy anyone who gets in their way — even breast cancer charities like the Komen Foundation.
If by “government out of our bedrooms” they mean “government out of our sex lives,” then Planned Parenthood supporters should ask that they refund all the money they have received (Over $4 billion since 1987) and get out of our schools.
As with most pro-choice arguments, this claim ignores the primary issue of abortion: Whether or not an innocent human being is killed. If abortion doesn’t kill an innocent human being, then of course the government shouldn’t be involved in determining whether the procedure is legal. However, if it does kill an innocent human being, then it really doesn’t matter where the life of the unborn started. And of course, the scientific fact is that the unborn are unique, living human beings from fertilization.
The government does not get involved in “bedrooms” in the sense that they dictate with whom consent adults can have sex. But is should get involved when people want to destroy the unwanted human being created in those bedroom activities.
The Democrats want to intrude in the bedroom. From their 2012 Platform:
The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.
The greater irony and hypocrisy of the Left is that they now want government to be explicitly involved in the bedroom by forcing taxpayers to pay for birth control and abortions. They don’t mind if that tramples religious freedom. Pro-lifers are being consistent here: Keep the government out of the bedroom but protect innocent human beings, and respect the First Amendment.
In addition, as Glenn noted in the comments, they also want the government to get involved in the bedrooms of gays and lesbians. By nature and design those relationships don’t produce children and can never provide a mother and a father to child, so why would they need government involvement?
If you vote for the Democrats, you are voting for taxpayer-funded abortions, less religious freedom and government intrusion into the bedroom.
Great post by the Bumbling Genius about worldviews and voting.
Older people now, by handing their healthcare over to the government, is in essence handing it over to the up and coming generation, a generation that has been taught by the same older people that there are no absolutes, not even that everyone should absolutely get taken care of when they’re sick or broken.
But wait, it is even worse: That same generation has also been taught that it is all about their self-esteem and happiness and how wonderful they are. Combine that with their moral relativism and it will take about 15 minutes for them to rationalize away taking care of old people.

I noticed that the Leftist media is working to keep the Akin rape comments issue alive and trying to pin it on Romney. But Romney rapidly refuted Akin’s comments in a clear and thorough fashion. That only leaves two options.
1. The Left agrees with Akin. After all, if Romney strongly opposed Akin and the Left strongly opposes Romney, what other option is there?
2. The Left knows Romney disagreed with Akin but is so desperate to destroy Romney and avoid accountability for Obama that they have no choice but to lie.

Should Anyone Be Surprised That MSNBC Cut The Speeches Of Republican Minorities? If you only get your news from the Leftist media you are part of the problem.
(Red Alert Politics) MSNBC wants you to think the Republican Party hates minorities. So much so that the liberal news network cut minority speeches from it’s convention coverage.

Will the media bother to tell Ohioans that Obama’s ad there is pure fiction?
All of which means that the actual message of the ad is “I had a job in the auto industry until about six years ago… and then I got a new job. Which is apparently one with a bad environmental and fiscal record, but that doesn’t matter! That’s because Barack Obama really, really needs me to get on the screen and tell you how great it is for me as a spectator to see the auto industry get bailed out. So I figure that I’m golden… oh, crud, Facebook. But… they promised me that Republicans couldn’t read!”
Which, admittedly, doesn’t really sing as a campaign message.

The viciousness of the Darwin Lobby:
Evolution News writes about an eminent scientist who is under by professors and students at Emory University because of his disagreement with Darwinian orthodoxy and his assertion that morality isn’t possible on a materialistic worldview.
Here’s the first article from Evolution News, which explains what got Dr. Carson in trouble with the Darwoids.
Excerpt:
You can be a brilliant, innovative pediatric neurosurgeon at a sky-scraping top medical school, in addition to being a generous philanthropist with an inspirational up-from-dire-poverty personal story, plus a Presidential Medal of Freedom winner, and a best-selling writer whose memoir was turned into a TV movie starring Cuba Gooding Jr.
All that, but if you once shared your critical thoughts on evolutionary science and its moral implications — everything else about you suddenly dwindles to very little.
Dr. Ben Carson of Johns Hopkins University is that man.

Obama’s SSM stance looks to be hurting him with Independents. I’d ignore the Republican less likely / Democrat more likely figures, as those would probably be the same regardless. But the Independent gap is telling.
That should be obvious, right? But think about how our society perceives it. Being pregnant out of wedlock is evidence of a sin, but isn’t a sin itself. Yet our culture insists that having an abortion to destroy the evidence isn’t a sin. And countless apostate churches and false teachers agree with the culture.
Run, don’t walk, from “churches” that can’t state the simple truth that it is immoral to kill innocent but unwanted human beings. The odds are incredibly high that they hold other false views, such as denying the authority and accuracy of scripture, the exclusivity and deity of Jesus, etc.
Always be prepared to point people in crisis pregnancies to your local Pregnancy Resource Center. They’ll find all sorts of Bible-based support, and you may be helping to save lives today and for eternity.
Press release from Planned Parenthood:
Cecille Richards, President of Planned Parenthood, announced today that the nation’s largest abortion provider will be hiring several former Penn State employees, including Joe Paterno and Scott McQueary.
“Our reasoning is simple,” said Richards. “To maximize our profits we must perform abortions on countless victims of statutory rape. Obeying the law and reporting the criminals is really bad for business.
While roughly half of the public has been persuaded by our sound bites that killing innocent but unwanted human beings is a civil right, we haven’t been able to convince as many that it is wrong to cover up sexual relations between 20+ year old men and underage girls.
While the Penn State employees were eventually discovered, their willingness and ability to hide child rape for so long demonstrates their commitment and usefulness to an organization with the principles of Planned Parenthood. We are especially keen on hiring Mike McQueary, who has the unique ability to see the act in progress and not contact the authorities. That’s the kind of dedication we need to counter those pesky pro-lifers who catch us over and over with their sneaky and unethical audios and videos.”
It is theoretically possible that the above is satire (I wish I didn’t have to write that, but you never know how people will take things).
I urge you to bring up Planned Parenthood’s long record of hiding statutory rape and sex trafficking when the Penn State topic comes up. People are rightly sickened by the actions of the football program, yet Planned Parenthood does the same thing on a vastly wider scale and with the blessing of the Democratic Party, the media and countless fake “religious“ people. If your under-aged daughters were impregnated by a statutory rapist, Planned Parenthood would gladly hide the crime and destroy your grandchild (For a price, of course. It isn’t a charity.)
Remember, your tax dollars and the rampant media bias makes this possible. Just count the headlines and op-eds on Penn State and compare them to the coverage of Lila Rose’s video sting operation. Even the Huffington Post and Saturday Night Live can see the perversions of justice that happened at Penn State, but they ignore the systematic injustices at Planned Parenthood.
I was talking to a Liberal who was rightly blasting the Penn State situation. I got him to agree that statutory rape is evil. Then I explained how often Planned Parenthood had been caught hiding statutory rape. In theory, his outrage should have been greater than it was towards the Penn State situation. After all, the Planned Parenthood evils are for more extensive and paid for with his tax dollars. His level of outrage: Zero. His interest in more information or proof of my claims? Zero. He just changed the subject.

Hat tip for this idea: Uber-commenter Jeff E., who left this comment on the Joe Paterno post:
Change the location of the discovery of underage rape from a Penn State sports facility to a Planned Parenthood office and see just how quickly liberal media outrage over not immediately reporting such incidents to the police changes. Should we hold Planned Parenthood leadership to the same standard they want to hold Penn State officials?
That’s a perfect question to ask anyone (rightfully) complaining about the Penn State fiasco.
I’ve been reading the blog Musings from a Theo-Geek by Marie for a long time and wanted to make readers aware of her new book. If you have any interest in the topic of eating disorders and overcoming spiritual bondage then I encourage you to look into it.
Side note: I don’t have the stats in front of me, but my daughter mentioned that when TV comes into a culture that eating disorders increase dramatically and quickly.

HAVE YOU FALLEN INTO THE PIT?
HERE’S HOPE!
REDEEMED FROM THE PIT
by Marie Notcheva
• Up to 3% of ALL adolescents in the United States have
symptoms of bulimia.
• 5-15% of ALL adult women show the same signs.
Are you one (or do you know someone) of the literally thousands who suffer from an eating disorder, most likely bulimia? Do you see yourself as fat and unattractive? Do you feel as though you don’t “fit in” and suffer from periods of deep depression? Has binging on food and then purging become a daily part of your routine?
HERE IS HOPE!
Drawing from her own experiences with the disorder, author Marie Notcheva shows you how to overcome this life-destroying habit. No, not by some contrived “self help” system—but by the power of the Lord Jesus Christ! Notcheva believes that the person suffering from an eating disorder is not a victim of a “disease”; it is not something that has befallen them or has been thrust upon them. Rather, the bulimic became so by a series of choices. They chose to feel a certain way about themselves. They chose to start on a path of behavior that leads to a destructive habit.
Likewise, those suffering from bulimia can start making correct choices. They can make the choice to believe that their behavior is sin, not a disease. They can believe that the Bible is the Word of God, and that by trusting in the sacrifice of Christ for sinners, they can have new life—and that they can have victory, not only over bulimia, but over the greatest threat of all: eternal destruction.
This book may indeed prove to be a “life saver” to many. It will certainly give tremendous hope to all who read it.
FOREWARD BY MARTHA PEACE
Since Mother Eve fell into sin, almost all women, Christians or not, have desired to be beautiful. Different cultures, over time, have defined beautiful in different ways. Remember the bee-hive hairdos of the 1960’s? Ancient Roman women thought that beautiful, too! Well, the bee-hive went out and thin came in.
Today, we are greatly influenced by the media to think that the only truly beautiful women are thin; very thin. We want to look like the movie stars, news anchors, and models that are almost always super-slim. I once heard about a movie star who on a very long air flight refused all the meals. On occasion, however, she would become so hungry she would insist on something to eat, eat two bites, and refuse the rest. She was thin and she was beautiful, but I wonder if her almost-starvation diet was worth it in the long run. She struggles with anorexia. Another may not starve herself; in fact, she may often be gluttonous, but maintains her weight by throwing up after the meal. Sometimes her compulsion is repeated several times per day. She struggles with bulimia.
It was forty-plus years ago in nursing school that I learned about eating disorders. As I recall, it was the first time I knew that eating disorders existed. Both were said to be psychiatric diseases and both, especially anorexia, were difficult to treat. What must have been rare back in the 1960’s is now, for many, a common practice. The quest for beauty which likely began with Mother Eve has not gone away. It is still labeled a psychiatric disease and anyone struggling with an eating disorder knows what Marie Notcheva means about being in the “pit” and “in bondage.”
Redeemed from the Pit: Biblical Repentance and Restoration from the Bondage of Eating Disorders is a gift from God to those struggling and to those helping someone struggling with an eating disorder. This book maintains a high view of God and an accurate view of man. It is written in an engaging style and entwined within it is Notcheva’s own personal struggle and how God granted her repentance and real freedom. As a biblical counselor to women, I am looking forward to using this book to help others. Read it prayerfully and thoughtfully. You, too, can, by God’s grace, be truly redeemed from the pit!

See Former Planned Parenthood official to lead attempt to reduce black infant mortality — Given that the #1 cause of death for blacks is abortion and that the abortion rate in the black community is 3x that of whites, the best way for her to help blacks would be to tell her former employer to stop doing abortions.
With the mortality rate for black Wisconsin infants among the highest and most unrelenting in the nation, that state’s largest public university has become co-manager of a $10 million grant to help prevent baby deaths.
Like the Northern Manhattan Perinatal Partnership, the Wisconsin effort is “based on the assumption that the problem of African-American infant mortality extends back through the entire life course of African-American females,” said Dr. Philip Farrell, a semi-retired neonatologist, former University of Wisconsin medical school dean and co-chairman of the Lifecourse Initiative for Healthy Families steering committee.
“We’re hoping this investment will allow us to attract and leverage more dollars so that we can support even more interventions,” said Lorraine Lathen, a global health consultant, program leader of the Lifecourse Initiative and the university’s chief partner in the project. “We’re looking at the non-health-related situations that can lead to poor birth outcomes. Our project is really focused on systems change, looking at increasing access to health care for women throughout their life span, not just waiting until they become pregnant.”
“There are multiple causes for the disparity, perhaps a dozen factors that we believe strongly influence pregnancy outcomes,” [Farrell] said, adding that he is encouraged by the present momentum in Wisconsin’s assault against infant deaths.
Missing from that article? Lathen formerly worked as the “vice president of education” at Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.
This effort to reduce infant deaths is led by a woman who engaged in infant deaths at Planned Parenthood.
. . .
What black women WON’T hear about:
– Planned Parenthood’s role in aborting black babies, who are aborted at four times the rate of their numbers in the Wisconsin population;
– How Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, felt about the black people: “Colored people are like human weeds and are to be exterminated;”
– How abortions increase the risk of low birth weight in future pregnancies by a factor of three, and of premature birth by a factor of two [both factors in infant deaths.]
