Two good iPhone apps recommended by my 83 yr. old father — Appygraph (send cards via text, with your pictures pasted in) and Heart Rate (you put your finger on the camera lens and it takes your pulse).  Apparently he’s the go-to guy for high tech.  And my 78 yr. old mom had him text a picture of something to her in a store.  Glad to see they are up on the latest things!

‘Revealing Heaven:’ Episcopal Pastor Details Hundreds of Near-Death Experiences, Backs Rob Bell — I know the author and have done prison ministry with him. I’m very disappointed at the direction he has taken. Rob Bell?! Ugh. I can’t see how he missed the obvious, namely that these things are demonic. Who would want to reassure people that everything is swell and they are definitely going to Heaven and don’t need to repent and believe?

The Atlanta Public School cheating scandal was immense in its breadth and duration, not to mention its recklessness.  This shouldn’t be a surprise, though.  Unionized bureaucrats and teachers rarely have the interests of the children at heart.  It is one more reason the “No Child Left Behind” and all other Federal initiatives are doomed to cause more problems than they solve.  Education funding and incentives should be as local as possible.  Federal initiatives are a waste that just lead to more corruption like this.

Fulton County prosecutors announced that a grand jury had indicted the Atlanta Public Schools’ ex-superintendent and nearly three dozen other former administrators, teachers, principals and other educators of charges arising from a standardized test cheating scandal that rocked the system.

Former Superintendent Beverly Hall faces charges including conspiracy, making false statements and theft because prosecutors said some of the bonuses she received were tied to falsified scores. Hall retired just days before the findings of a state probe were released in mid-2011. A nationally known educator who was named Superintendent of the Year in 2009, Hall has long denied knowing about the cheating or ordering it.

During a news conference Friday, Howard highlighted the case of Juwanna and another student, saying they demonstrated “the plight of many children” in the Atlanta school system.

Their stories were among many that investigators heard in hundreds of interviews with school administrators, staff, parents and students during a 21-month-long investigation.

Wow, check out the anti-gay hate speech from all of these . . . Democrats?!?!  Not shocking at all, really.  And not hate speech, of course.  They just said whatever would optimize their votes, just like most Republicans do.  But their words at the were true, even if they didn’t believe them.  They have no substantive reasons for their change other than public opinion.

Abortion kills unwanted innocent but human beings.  It is a scientific fact and basic common sense that a new human being is created at fertilization.  So if someone calls you anti-abortion, don’t get defensive.  Embrace it!  Would you apologize for being anti-slavery?

Thoughts on the new Pope: The Reformation happened for a reason.  Actually, 95 of them, and they are still valid reasons to avoid the Catholic church.  I deeply respect their positions on abortion, real marriage and various other topics, and I think that many Catholics are indeed saved — but in spite of what Rome teaches on sanctification, Mary and other topics, not because of what they teach on them.

Having said that, I like the conservative stances of the new Pope, and his humility in how he lives.  It is always good to see the Leftists in full pants-wetting mode over the fact that the head of the Catholic religion actually believes what the Catholic religion teaches.  How dare the Catholic leaders ignore the desires of those who oppose everything the leaders stand for?

Some independent coffee shops have simply eliminated drinks above 16 ounces. There’s lots of confusion and angst. Starbucks is waiting for the result of the lawsuit filed against the city.

Canadian Supreme Court Ruling Has Implications for Christian Witness – coming soon to a country near you.  As always, the truth sounds like hate to those that hate the truth.

The ruling also states that suppression of “hate speech”—such as claiming that homosexual behavior is immoral—is so important that it justifies infringing on religious freedom and provides a basis for a “reasonable limit on freedom of religion and is demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.” The court also explained that truth was no defense since “Truthful statements can be presented in a manner that would meet the definition of hate speech, and not all truthful statements must be free from restriction.”

This standard is then used to justify a draconian standard of censorship: If, despite the context of the entire publication, even one phrase or sentence is found to bring the publication, as a whole, in contravention of the Code, this precludes its publication in its current form.

. . . If criticism of homosexual behavior is construed as criticism of homosexuals then a “simple reading” of the Lev. 18 and context clearly shows that the passage “could objectively be viewed as hate speech.” While Canada’s Supreme Court justices may not understand what is in the “holy text” used by Christians, homosexual rights activists certainly do—and they will expect the legal system to consistently apply the logic of the Court’s ruling.

Equally troubling is that Christian ministers who condemn homosexual behavior can be subject to hate crime prosecution. Canada’s Supreme Court has determined that speaking out against destructive homosexual behaviors could be construed as vilification of homosexuals and therefore is prohibited in most circumstances. This is a radical standard that could severely hamper Christian witness.

Although Jesus said “the truth will set you free,” in Canada speaking the same truths proclaimed in God’s Word could potentially land Christians in jail.

In summary, then, Calvin encourages all Christians, and especially ministers, to keep several things in mind as they visit the sick.

  1. People need the gospel more than ever when they are ill.
  2. Remind the sick from the word of God that God is sovereign over their illness and has sent it for their good.
  3. If the illness is severe, comfort the sick with the sure knowledge that those who die in the Lord have nothing to fear.
  4. If the sick consider their sins to be light and trivial, teach them of the justice of God and call them to embrace the mercy of Christ.
  5. If the sick are afflicted in their consciences, help them find rest in Christ.
  6. Don’t be afraid to bring some small token of physical relief—books, flowers, balloons, games, movies, a homemade card.

The Christian Alert had a write-up of how Richard Dawkins plays the “You only believe that because of where you are born” and the “evidence for God = evidence for unicorns” cards.   Ugh.  Typical poor reasoning from Dawkins.  Using that logic, he’s only an atheist because of where he was born.

And the unicorns / flying tea pot / flying spaghetti monster / etc. argument demonstrates the childishness and lack of seriousness of atheists like him.  To claim that the cosmological, teleological, historical, moral, etc. arguments are akin to those is a concession speech to their Romans 1 poster boy rebellion.

But one surrogate mother has rejected that pressure — and an offer of $10,000 to have an abortion. Crystal Kelley was offered $10,000 to have an abortion after ultrasounds showed the baby she was carrying for another couple had severe medical problems.

Watch how Akin’s comments are treated versus similar gaffes

Senate candidate Todd Akin said some garbled and erroneous things about rape and abortion and has since clarified them.  It appears that he was trying to distinguish between statutory rape and the more violent form, but he used the unfortunate and false term of “legitimate” to describe the latter.  He obviously wasn’t trying to say that some rapes were legitimate in the sense of being acceptable, but that isn’t how the media and the Left are playing it.  If anything, he was implying that statutory rapes were less severe.

His broader point of defending the children of rapists from death and destruction was lost.

While Romney and Ryan were quick to do the politically expedient thing in distancing themselves from Akin, I’m disappointed that their response was an endorsement of abortion in the case of rape.  I would have preferred the following:

We disagree with Akin’s botched descriptions of “legitimate rape,” of course, because he knows and we know there is no such thing.

But we agree that as awful as any type of rape is, it is never a justification for killing the innocent human being who was conceived by the rape.  Killing the unborn does not undo the rape.

We also want to note that statutory rape is still rape, and that Planned Parenthood has a long and detailed history of systemically hiding those atrocities.  If elected, one of our first acts will be to investigate them and defund them so that victims of statutory rape and sex trafficking will be protected and that your tax dollars will not support the protection of their abusers.

If we had journalists who were even remotely unbiased, they’d do the following:

  1. Report on the statutory rape and sex trafficking cover-ups at Planned Parenthood.
  2. Give more attention to the FRC shooting, where a pro-gay person — apparently fueled by the ironic hate speech of the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Left in general — planned to shoot those who hold the same views about marriage that Barrack Obama did until a few months ago.  They were barely reporting on this story as it was.  Now it will disappear completely.
  3. Note that Akin is obviously not pro-rape.  He just misspoke in a very bad way.
  4. The current President defended infanticide.
  5. Note that the gaffes of Biden weren’t mistakes (reporting on that will disappear today as well

When this topic comes up I hope that pro-lifers will be quick to point out that all rapes are evil and that killing the children conceived in rapes is also wrong.  Ask pro-choicers if they oppose all rapes, and if so, why aren’t they alarmed that Planned Parenthood doesn’t just misspeak about rapes, as Akin did, but they systematically cover them up?

Fake Christian Chuck Currie sheds crocodile tears about FRC shooting

False teacher Chuck “Jesus is not the only way” Currie took a break from taking little girls to gay pride parades to pretend to be upset about the shooting at the Family Research Council.  If you read the post you’ll see that it he just fakes concern so he can advance his anti-gun agenda and pile on Bible-believing Christians as haters — Shooting At Family Research Council Must Be Condemned; Shows Need For New Gun Controls.

He called FRC a hate group because someone else has called them a hate group.  Golly, that’s good logic!

He claimed the shooter’s motives weren’t known, but that is false.

And he subtly blames the FRC for the shooting, noting that they didn’t call for prayers for the Colorado or Sikh temple shootings.  Yeah, Chuck, the FRC guard really got what he deserved!  Maybe they really prayed about it as individuals and didn’t just pretend to care like you do.  Your lack of sincerity on this shooting is indicative of your lack of sincerity in your calls to prayer (and you pray to Satan, anyway!).

And isn’t it obvious, using Liberal Logic, that Chuck & Co. are to blame for this?  They have perpetually demonized real Christians as haters, and then they act surprised when their words have incited violence.

I’m always tempted to say Chuck has hit a new, but that would be an exaggeration.  He just stays low.

The Constitution: You’re readin’ it wrong

This seemed timely given recent comments by the President and Justice Ginsburg minimizing the importance and value of our amazing Constitution.  One of the obvious things that Liberals miss is that if they don’t like what is in the Constitution they are welcome to have it changed — provided that they go through the process outlined in the document.  But that is hard work, so they just “amend” it by fiat.  They pretend that because it is old and imperfect that they can just ignore it.  Such people are unfit for public service.

Matt made an excellent point in a comment with the first item, so I thought I’d see what else people might think of.  If anyone thinks Conservatives are inconsistent on the Constitution they are welcome to offer examples, but be sure to support them with facts and logic.

Liberals think the Constitution enshrines the right of a woman to have her innocent but unwanted unborn child destroyed, but not to protect that same life with a firearm.

Liberals think the Constitution has a right to “same-sex marriage” but not a right to criticize the concept (“Haters!  Hate speech!”).

See Pro-marriage New York senator faces death threats, barraged with hate calls.  But how can that be?  Isn’t the Left is synonymous with tolerance, love and respect?

This man is just opposed to square circles (oops — I mean “same-sex marriage”) and his ideological opponents — who claim to be all about tolerance and anti-hate — harass him with death threats.

The New York politician leading the charge for true marriage in the state says he has faced death threats and a barrage of hate calls as a result of his stand.

“I continue to be the target of a vulgar campaign by seething extremists who oppose my defense of New York’s marriage laws,” said Democrat State Senator Ruben Diaz Sr. in a May 26th press release.  “As a Christian, of course I love those who hate me and I will continue to pray for their souls.”

On May 10th, one homosexual activist upset over the legislator’s May 15th Rally to Protect Marriage wrote on Twitter that he wanted to sexually assault Diaz’s daughter.  And an online forum for homosexuals called The New Gay is organizing a “F*** Ruben Diaz Festival” in Brooklyn for June 11th.

The group called for written entries in which contestants are to “imagine a day” in Diaz’s life.  “Is he downtown scoring poppers? … Is he waking up in a tangle of hard man-bodies after a raging orgy? … Feel free to put Ruben in whatever ridiculous scenario you want,” they write.

He urged New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and the state’s legislators to “take a close look at the hard core and vulgar tactics that are being used to change a law in New York State.”

“I urge all to compare my non-violent, peaceful and prayerful rallies to protect marriage and the attempts to humiliate me because of my one vote in the State Senate,” he added.

Though Diaz’s colleagues in the legislature have failed to defend him – with one Bronx source telling New York Daily News it’s because “the feeling is that you reap what you sow” – Diaz was supportedJune 3rd by the New York Catholic Conference, the public policy arm for New York’s Catholic bishops.

The fierce attacks the bishops received when they opposed same-sex “marriage” in 2009 is “small potatoes” compared to the “hate speech” that’s been thrown at Sen. Diaz, wrote executive director Richard Barnes in a Facebook note.

“Where is the outrage in the media? Where is the cry for tolerance and justice for Rev. Diaz against these hate purveyors?” Barnes asked.  “The answer, sadly, is that there is no outcry. Are they saving it for after something truly awful happens to this good man? Until the hate that is being incited boils over into violent behavior?”

“The entire campaign to enact same-sex marriage is conducted under a banner of acceptance, and equality and respect for others,” Barnes continued.  “Yet behind that banner of tolerance is another campaign – of intimidation, threats and ugliness. What at first appears to be simple juvenile behavior by a few is becoming a culture and climate of abusiveness toward those who disagree.”

“Is this the future we look forward to in our state? Intolerance masquerading as tolerance, intimidation in the name of respect?” he added.  “I hope not, but the wind certainly seems to be blowing in that direction.”

I would add this question: Where are the false teachers* who claim to care about “hate speech” and opposing bullying?  Oh, I forgot: They are liars and hypocrites.  They are the real haters.

Looks like the hate speech of false teachers like Jim “the Gospel is all about wealth redistribution” Wallis and race-baiting Chuck “Jesus is not the only way” Currie has resulted in someone wanting to kill Beck — see Youtube user D3R3K1600 chilling call for conspiracy to murder Glenn Beck (video) | VotingFemale.

Here’s a sample of Wallis’ hate speech.  Seems to me that Wallis loves the attention and milks the Beck thing for all it is worth.

I suppose Jim, Chuck et al will go turn themselves in now since they are the ones who think we need hate speech laws to begin with.

Honk if you’re paying my mortgage! – more bad news: Obama & Co. are set to “bail out” people who don’t even need to be bailed out.  They are current on their mortgages but owe more than the house is currently worth.  Sure, that’ll teach people to take accountability for their actions.  More of your tax dollars being wasted to drive negative behavior.

So, The Wage Gap IS True. Only, It’s Men Who Earn Less

As this new research shows, it’s women’s (and men’s) attributes and career choices that determine earnings. Yet there’s something troubling about Time‘s tone, which suggests that we should all be celebrating the idea of women dominating the workplace. To the extent that this trend is driven by men losing jobs and remaining out of work, and young men failing to attain the skills needed to meaningfully contribute to the economy, this is not good news at all.

Of course, we all want women to have the opportunity to compete and succeed in whatever profession they choose. But we want the same to be true for men. Furthermore, given that some women still wish to stay home or reduce their workload in order to spend time raising children, women’s higher earnings may actually be a symptom of hardship: More women are having to work more since the men in their lives can’t provide for the family alone or because they are providing for themselves.

This quote by Martin Luther speaks so well to the church today and those silent on controversial issues.  No one gets offended by people wanting to help the poor, but they sure do if you say that Jesus is the only way to salvation, that killing innocent human beings in the womb is wrong, that God’s design for marriage and parenting is one man and one woman, etc.

If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages there the loyalty of the soldier is proved. And to be steady on all the battlefields beside is merely flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.

Being bold about everything except the key topics of the day isn’t being bold at all.

People with ‘no religion’ gain on major denominations — But as with most polls, you have to dig to determine what is really going on.  This does not mean that the % claiming to be atheists has increased:

The percentage of atheist Nones — who say there’s no such thing as God — hasn’t budged in years. “It’s not as though dozens of people at the Methodist Church read (atheist Richard) Dawkins and suddenly decided God doesn’t exist,” says Kosmin.

“There are so many misconceptions about who the Nones are. They’re not New Age searchers or spiritual or even hardened atheists,” says Kosmin.

“They’re a stew of agnostics, deists and rationalists. They sound more like Thomas Jefferson and Tom Paine. Their very interesting enlightenment approach is like the Founding Fathers’ kind: Skeptical about organized religion and clerics while still holding to an idea of God.”

After witnessing a gay pride march, committed Christian Pauline Howe wrote to the council to complain that the event had been allowed to go ahead.

But instead of a simple acknowledgement, she received a letter warning her she might be guilty of a hate crime and that the matter had been passed to police.

Playing the What if Bush had done it? game that highlights media inconsistencies is easy.  But it isn’t just the normal media bias, it is the pressure to prop up their creation.

. . . the press has a story line that they have to defend.  If Obama gets exposed as a flop, and worse as a typical Chicago pol, then it makes their failure to properly vet Obama during the primaries that much more clear.  In a sense, they created Obama, and his collapse would be their collapse as well.

As if we needed more proof, President Obama lied about abortion not being in the health care “plan.”  Turns out he was playing a Clintonian game where he was referring to a plan that didn’t exist, rather than the real plan.  And why is is that I should trust him?  Hat tip: Verum Serum

You have got to be kidding me: Democrats Vote To Give ACORN Regulatory Authority Over Financial Institutions ?!?!?!

These are the same organizations that pressured banks to make subprime mortgage loans and thus bear a major responsibility for the collapse of the housing market.

In light of recent evidence linking ACORN to possible criminal activity, Democrats took an unprecedented step today to give ACORN a potential role alongside bank regulators in overseeing financial institutions.  This is contrary to recent actions taken by the Senate and House to block federal funds to ACORN.

A recent inquiry into bank funding of ACORN activities by three House Committees found that institutions that would be regulated by the CFPA have provided millions of dollars to the organization in the form of direct donations, lines of credit, cash, and other assets over the last 15 years.
