Guns vs. abortions

This post about Purchasing A Gun vs. Purchasing An Abortion made some excellent points about the many inconsistencies in how the Left approaches the Constitution, regulations and life issues.  Hat tip: My favorite blogger

Let’s take a look at the differences and similarities between purchasing a gun and purchasing an abortion.

Both guns and abortions are goods or services which are produced and purchased on the free market.

When a gun is purchased, there’s a 99%  chance that gun will never result in the death of a single individual. When an abortion is purchased, there is a 99% chance the abortion will result in the death of an individual.

My tax dollars aren’t used to purchase a gun for someone who can’t afford it. My tax dollars are used to purchase an abortion for a woman or a girl who can’t afford it.

You can legally use a gun to kill an attacker in self-defense, if your life is threatened. You can legally use an abortion to kill a baby for any reason, including the mother’s life being threatened by the baby.

You can get suspended from school for drawing a picture of a gun. Read here. You can get the morning after abortion pill from the school nurse.

There is a background check and a waiting period in order to purchase a gun. There is no waiting period or back ground check to purchase an abortion. For a girl under 18 there are 6 states that require at least one parents permission 24 to 48 hours before the abortion.

. . .

On the one hand the left worked to create and expand a nonexistent right, which forced their morality concerning abortion on the states and the people, and on the other hand, they want to restrict and take away a clearly stated right concerning fire arms, which would also force their morality on the states and the people.

I guess the lesson to be learned is, the left wants to force their morality on us through government coercion, rather than trying to persuade people to accept their morally superior ideas as gospel.

I encourage you to read the entire post to pick up the points about the Constitution..

The Constitution: You’re readin’ it wrong

This seemed timely given recent comments by the President and Justice Ginsburg minimizing the importance and value of our amazing Constitution.  One of the obvious things that Liberals miss is that if they don’t like what is in the Constitution they are welcome to have it changed — provided that they go through the process outlined in the document.  But that is hard work, so they just “amend” it by fiat.  They pretend that because it is old and imperfect that they can just ignore it.  Such people are unfit for public service.

Matt made an excellent point in a comment with the first item, so I thought I’d see what else people might think of.  If anyone thinks Conservatives are inconsistent on the Constitution they are welcome to offer examples, but be sure to support them with facts and logic.

Liberals think the Constitution enshrines the right of a woman to have her innocent but unwanted unborn child destroyed, but not to protect that same life with a firearm.

Liberals think the Constitution has a right to “same-sex marriage” but not a right to criticize the concept (“Haters!  Hate speech!”).

Have fun!

Q&A: How can I be better prepared for evangelism? – read a free chapter of Lord Foulgrin’s Letters, a modernized version of C.S. Lewis’ classic, The Screwtape Letters.  Both are great books.  Here’s a snippet (the writer is a senior demon coaching a junior demon, so everything is backwards):

Let Fletcher be a “good example” until he’s blue in the face—as long as he doesn’t explain the forbidden message. Look around you, Squaltaint, and you’ll see innumerable Christian sludgebags who’ve been good neighbors and model coworkers for decades. But they’ve never actually told those around them what it means to be a Christian. Many of them imagine by now the message has somehow magically gotten across, but of course it hasn’t. Excellent.

Fletcher made the statement to Ryan he’d like to share the gospel with his wife and mother-in-law “when the time is right”? This frightened you, but it can work to our advantage. Don’t let him grasp the Enemy’s notion that evangelism is one beggar telling another where to find bread. Instead, turn evangelism into something more complex or obscure, something that will happen one day, but never today.

Fill him with an irrational dread of bringing up the Carpenter and the forbidden mes sage in conversation. If the vermin analyzed it, they’d be on to us. What else but our efforts could explain why they get so apprehensive about doing for someone what they believe is the biggest favor in the universe—telling them about the Enemy’s plan to save them from hell and give them heaven?

Don’t let Fletcher ask himself why a man from Portland should care about what a man from Chicago thinks of him as they both fly to Philadelphia. Why, when he will never see this man again (unless he accepts the message, in which case he’ll be deeply grateful), should he be so frightened of the man’s rejection? Why would they feel so hesitant about telling people what’s clearly in their best interests? Don’t let the obvious absurdity settle in, or he may catch on it’s we who are playing tricks on his tiny mind, fueling this irrational fear.

Is Barack Obama a Socialist? To avoid the question is to avoid personal accountability to our nation, our individual rights, and our freedoms. If Barack Obama is a socialist, the evidence will speak unequivocally, his policies will confirm it implicitly and his stated agenda will answer the question undeniably. Socialism is the government forcibly taking from those who have earned what they have and giving it to others. It crushes initiative, innovation and spirit while fomenting class warfare, racial strife and social welfare as it devours a nation. Heed the words of a statesman: Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. – Winston Churchill

Militant Gays Demand to Donate Risky Blood – as usual, this is about politics and hurt feelings, not helping others.  As noted in Why didn’t the media cover the new CDC study on HIV transmission?, if a communicable, preventable disease rate is 44 times higher for one particular group (gay and bisexual men) that just might be a reason to put some safeguards in place.  Even if testing has improved, can you imagine the impact and lawsuits if tainted blood slipped through?

NAACP Offended at Black Holes: Hears Black Whores – Hallmark’s Hoops and Yo-Yo cards are really funny.  They had a card with an astronomy theme that referenced “black holes” and some thin-skinned, hopelessly political correct professional victims insisted that it said “black whores.”  Yeah, right, another sample from Hallmark’s line of prostitution cards.  Sheesh. Listen to the card yourself at the link and note the context.

The Christian Post reports that a panel of Episcopal theologians are working on preparing “a paper on same-sex relationships in the life of the church.” This group of “theologians” “very intentionally represents a robust range of views on the subject and includes gays and lesbian persons.”

Wow – I am so happy to hear that a panel studying “same-sex relationships in the life of the church” includes same-sex advocates. This should be a really unbiased examination of what God’s Word has to say, dontcha think?

It is a joke that they are even asking the question.  As someone who has actually read the Bible, I’ll be glad to save them some time:

  • 100% of the verses addressing homosexual behavior denounce it as sin in the clearest and strongest possible terms.
  • 100% of the verses referencing God’s ideal for marriage involve one man and one woman.
  • 100% of the verses referencing parenting involve moms and dads with unique roles (or at least a set of male and female parents guiding the children).
  • 0% of 31,173 Bible verses refer to homosexual behavior in a positive or even benign way or even hint at the acceptability of homosexual unions or oxymoronic “same sex marriage.”

We are all sinners in need of a savior, even if you excluded our sexual sins.  But Christians should never encourage sin or say that sin isn’t sin.  That is profoundly un-loving and the opposite of what Jesus did.

This is really not that complicated.  For a more thorough discussion on what the Bible really says, see Problems with pro-gay theology and Responding to Pro-Gay Theology.

Despite the lies of the Left, this is what is coming soon to a country near you: UK Police tell Christian Preacher: it’s a crime to say ‘homosexuality is a sin’. But always remember that there is definitely no homosexual agenda.

President Obama has appointed Kevin Jennings, co-founder and executive director of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN), to be Deputy Assistant Secretary of Education for the Department of Safe and Drug-Free Schools.  Read this link and see how the public face is all about alleged anti-bullying efforts but their real motives are still in the closet:

After the “town hall meeting” concluded and the media had left the building, the 210 attendees broke into private workshop groups, where GLSEN presenters expounded a markedly different vision for the future. Denouncing the quest for “tolerance” as a “condescending campaign for the second-class citizenry” —— as one speaker put it —— the presenters spoke frankly about their goal to have homosexuality open “affirmed” and celebrated” in American’s schools.

“We might start with people who…say, ‘Well, I can go as far as tolerance,’ and then we build from there,” Kalteissen said. “And our job, I believe, is to move them down the scale…Tolerance is not enough, let’s keep going.”

Hmmmm . . . is it possible that people who are aggressively trying to teach kindergartners how normal this behavior is could lie about their motives?

But always remember that there is definitely no homosexual agenda.

A new religion masquerading as Christianity — a former theological liberal explains how things changed once she quit putting her personal preferences over the commands of the Bible.

Before I came to know Christ in a saving way I was a liberal “Christian.” (That was before the liberals coined the term “progressive Christian.”) As all liberals do, I molded Christianity into my worldview. Problem was I kept running into a road block — the Bible.

I hope that the theological liberals who visit this site will make the same course correction that she did — while there is still time!

Just when you thought they couldn’t go any lower: Free abortions to honor George Tiller! (OK, we knew they could go lower.)

How Unconstitutional is Barack Obama? Let me count the ways — Why aren’t Liberals and ACLU types going insane over this?!

One of Obama’s worst ideas

And he’s had lots of bad ideas.

The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) is a controversial bill that was passed by the House in 2007 and stalled in Senate 2008.  It was reintroduced to Legislature as of March 2009.  Obama has committed to passing it.

It is an awful bill that will do great damage to our economy.

Current Law (NLRA)

  • If 30% support union, NLRB grants a “Secret Ballot Election”
  • Union certified if majority vote is YES.
  • Companies must “bargain” in good faith but are not required to reach an agreement.

Proposed Law (EFCA)

  • Card Check – If over 50% of cards affirm union support then the NLRB certifies the union without an election.
  • If no contract is reached within 120 days, a binding arbitration guaranteed contract for 2 years is put in place without a vote.

Eliminating secret ballots could lead to union intimidation, unfair representation, etc.  Union organizers can follow people out in public, get in their faces, pressure them to sign cards, etc.

Unfair binding arbitration will have all sorts of consequences.  Once you get a union it is almost impossible to get rid of it.  They cost jobs.  The U.S. automakers made lots of bad decisions over the years, but the unions were the biggest catalyst in their failures.  You simply can’t compete when your costs are that much higher than your competitors.

EFCA is profoundly un-American and bad idea.
