The importance of discernment and clear thinking

Ann Coulter makes some excellent points in Beware of Liberals Who Come in Evangelicals’ Clothing:

Any Evangelical promoting the McCain-Rubio amnesty plan has the moral framework of Planned Parenthood. Like the abortion lobby, they have boundless compassion for the people they can see, but none for those they can’t see.

One Evangelical after another told the Times that they no longer believe Americans should have control over who immigrates here on the basis of having met illegal aliens in their pews. The millions harmed by illegal immigration are left out of the equation. They don’t go to church here.

Similarly, the pro-choice crowd is brimming with compassion for girls who have gotten pregnant by accident. They’re in high school, their whole lives are ahead of them, it’s one mistake! The babies don’t count because they’re out of sight.

The Rev. David Uth, head pastor of First Baptist Orlando, said that based on “the stories out there in the pews” from illegals who “have made friends and who have become close with people here,” there was momentum in his church to “do something to address their needs.”

Mr. Uth and his parishioners will never hear stories from the thousands of Americans killed every year by illegal aliens. They won’t be sitting in the pews with those murdered and maimed in Boston last month by a conspiracy of immigrants.

They won’t hear from hospitals and school systems in border states forced into bankruptcy because they have to provide free services to illegals. They won’t chat with farmers and ranchers whose livestock and property are stolen or destroyed by illegal aliens.

It is sad to see people make un-principled decisions just because they feel sorry for someone they know.  I’ve seen countless people switch positions to directly oppose the Bible just because they know someone who is gay and they want them to be “happy.”  Or they become pro-choice because they feel sorry for a pregnant teen.  Or they oppose immigration laws because they know an illegal alien.  It is such a sad case of abandoning critical thinking skills and not thinking about the other victims and about what God says.  As Christians we should be mature, clear thinkers and not let emotions lead us to take immoral positions on these issues.

Roundup

If you have a Twitter account, post about #gosnell and ask why there is a media blackout.

Just how many infanticides would an abortionist have to commit before MSNBC and Politico would find it newsworthy?  (As noted below, searches for Kermit Gosnell return literally zero items.)  CBS had 5 stories on dogs this week and none on Gosnell.  How many would he have to commit before President Obama, the Democrats and the false teachers even acknowledged it, let alone spoke out against it?

Whenever these people bring up gun control, ask them about Gosnell and how much they spoke out against him.  [Crickets chirping]

Would the media have covered the Gosnell murder trial if the abortionist had killed the babies with guns?  They are milking the Newtown tragedy to destroy our freedoms yet completely ignore these murders.  They know it would destroy their “back alley abortion” meme if people knew what happened in front of the alley.

And remember that Planned Parenthood and Obama fought for these killings to be legal.

From Sifting Reality, this screen shot says it all.  Try it yourself at http://tv.msnbc.com/?s=kermit+gosnell .

This screen capture is not photoshopped.  I took it at 8:50 PM tonight

msnbc no match

Not. One. Story.

Same thing for Politico.

Can you imagine the coverage if it were dogs being killed?

Great quote about the media blackout on abortionist Kermit Gosnell:

“If Dr. Gosnell had walked into a nursery and shot seven infants with an AR-15, it would be national news and the subject of presidential hand-wringing.” That was the challenging observation made this morning by Rep. Chris Smith,  R-NJ, on the floor of the U.S. House.

Because Kermit Gosnell instead allegedly snipped the spinal cords of seven newborn babies in a building called an abortion clinic, the national media has almost uniformly ignored the case, said Smith, something that he charged amounted to a deliberate “cover-up.”

“Will the decades-long major national news media cover-up of the brutality—and violence—of abortion methods ever end?” asked Smith. “Will Americans ever be told the horrifying details as to how—and how often—abortionists dismember, decapitate, and chemically poison innocent babies?”

Kermit Gosnell is currently undergoing trial on charges of murdering seven newborn infants by slitting their spinal cords after failed abortions. Former employees of Gosnell have testified that hundreds of babies – many of them viable – were “aborted” in this way at Gosnell’s “House of Horrors” clinic.

Background checks do not get the job done — they sound like a good idea until you actually think about them.  They wouldn’t have prevented any of the shootings that people are using to rob us of our Constitutional rights.  Criminals won’t obey them.  And so on.

As Ann Coulter says, to reduce gun violence you need to to deal with the crazy people (which Democrats aggressively fight) and advance concealed carry rights.  At least that’s what all the facts say.

All the actual evidence — mountains of it, in peer-reviewed studies by highly respected economists and criminologists and endlessly retested — shows that limits on magazine capacity, background checks and assault weapons bans will accomplish nothing. Only one policy has been shown to dramatically reduce multiple public shootings: concealed-carry laws.

. . .

For most of the 20th century, from 1900 to 1970, there was an average of four mass public shootings per decade. Throughout the ’70s, as the loony bins were being emptied, the average number of mass shootings suddenly shot up to 13. In the 3.3 decades since 1980, after all the mental institutions had been turned into condos, mass shootings skyrocketed to 36 on average per decade.

Mass shootings don’t correlate with gun ownership; they correlate with not locking up schizophrenics.

And never let the pro-abort gun-grabbers get away with pretending they just want to protect children.  These moral freaks think we aren’t killing enough of them in the womb, so they want taxpayer-funded abortions to kill some more.

From the “How will ‘same-sex marriage hurt you'” files: State Sues Florist Who Refused to Decorate Gay Wedding — and this is before it becomes a Federal issue.

“Arlene’s Flowers has catered to all patrons, including homosexuals, for many years,” Bristol wrote in his reply to the Attorney General. “Arlene’s Flowers has had openly gay employees.”

He told The Seattle Times that he believes the state is trying to make an example of the flower shop.

“This is about gay marriage, it’s not about a person being gay,” he told the newspaper. “She has a conscientious objection to homosexual marriage, not homosexuality. It violates her conscience.”

Anti-Anxiety Medication Used as Pretext to Confiscate Firearms – this is where this is headed, folks.

Given the current political climate, all new gun control measures must be resisted ferociously, because liberal authoritarians have made clear that they will disarm law-abiding citizens any way they can. Even ostensibly reasonable objectives like keeping firearms away from lunatics are providing cover for tyrannical abuse:

The New York State Police are suspending the handgun permits of people in the state who are prescribed anti-anxiety medication, according to Jim Tresmond of the Tresmond Law Firm in Hamburg, New York. …

“We were flummoxed by this whole matter,” the attorney said. “The HIPPA act is supposed to prevent this kind of thing from happening. It’s a gross invasion of our privacy rights.”

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Privacy Rule establishes national standards to protect individuals’ medical records and other personal health information, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

Does anyone really trust Big Government to keep information private? If your property belongs to bureaucrats to redistribute as they see fit, so does your medical data.

Make no mistake: You cannot trust the government not to abuse laws like this.  They will take your guns at will and the burden of proof will be on you to prove how sane you are.

I’ve seen countless critics of Rick Warren be extremly respectful of him and silent in the wake of his son’s suicide, so I was suprised to see this: Rick Warren Uses Pastors.com to Attack Critics in Wake of Son’s Death.  Beth Moore was his attack dog here, hypocritically hating on the (alleged) haters and exploiting his son’s suicide to use against his critics.  She should know better than to support Warren’s theology, but then again, she’s part of the problem.  Just a few of the terms that “loving” Beth used during this period when Warren’s critics (at least the Christians) have been nearly universally silent.  Can’t you feel the love and compassion?

  • Hateful

  • Relentless

  • Bullies

  • Mud slingers

  • Mean

  • Careless

  • Self seeking

  • Haters

  • Mockers

  • Slanderers

  • Snide

  • Self serving

  • Enemies

And Mark Driscoll played the same hypocritical game in attacking Warren’s “attackers.”  But is it wrong to point out when a Christian leader does things like endorsing books calling people back to Catholicism?

“It jumped, the arm”; Update: Media score – Rutgers 41, Gosnell 0 — Media blackout continues.  They cover all sorts of lesser stories but ignore the abortionist who killed babies outside the womb, had an unbelievably filthy clinic and mistreated women.

The government has no money for [fill in the blank], but they have plenty to spread homosexuality abroad.  Yes, those are your taxes, doing things that should never be done.

Great and accurate send-up of gun control people.

Massive Gun Roundup

No, not the Leftist kind, the news kind.

—–

It is tragic how the convergence of malice and naiveté lead to restrictions on people defending themselves against criminals and potentially against their government. The malice is from those who want to disarm you so you can be controlled more easily.  The naiveté is from those who think that utopia is possible in this life.  If you want a perfect place to live, then repent, trust in Jesus and then hurry up and die.  Otherwise, you are stuck here where you have to make trade-offs and adult decisions.  Thinking that disarming the innocent will somehow protect you from evil people is just a false sense of security they are selling you.  Do you not realize that the government is made up of the same kind of greedy, sinful people that populate the rest of society?

The ignorance of history — what has happened in other countries, plus the reasons the 2nd Amendment exists — is a big part of the problem.   And it is unlikely that is an accident, given the political views of most educators.

This can’t be right – I thought the 2nd Amendment was all about hunting . . .

The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.
—Thomas Jefferson

Read more about the original purpose.  And keep in mind that these un-Constitutional proposals are a great way to take attention away from the fact they are rapidly destroying the country by borrow half of what we spend.  This can’t last, folks.

Most agree that some people shouldn’t have guns. Please restore the ability to get nuts off the street (see Guns don’t kill people, the mentally ill do). But silliness about rounds and calibers should be done away with. You need to have at least one more round than the bad guys have.

I have a few follow up questions for the Obama-prop 8 yr. olds used in the President’s press conference: Do you know what the 2nd Amendment is and why the Founding Fathers included it in the Bill of Rights?

If bad people came to your house with guns and the only way to save the lives of your family was to defend yourself with guns, would you want to have you and your family die rather than to stop the nice President from taking your guns away?

Do you think your Mom should have had the right to have you killed before you were born?  Or if you survived the abortion, should it have been legal for the doctor to just let you die?  Because Mr. Nice Guy Constitutional Scholar Won’t-Someone-Please-Think-of-the-Children President Obama not only thinks that your moms had a right to abortion, but the right to a dead baby, and he thinks that if they couldn’t have afforded to kill you that people who oppose abortion should have had to pay for it.

Now back to the President: Please tell us more about how our first task as a society is to keep our children safe.

The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.
Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler, Publ. Houghton Miflin, 1943, Page 403

Why are the anti-gun people so anti-women?  Don’t they want women to be able to protect themselves from rapists and abusers?  Do you think that gang-rape in India could have been prevented if someone had been armed?  That is one of millions of examples.  It isn’t that you have to carry a gun, but that the bad guys don’t know if you have a gun.  If Obama & Co. get their wishes, they’ll know we are unarmed.

Violent crime rate more than doubled in the four years after the 1997 UK gun ban.

Take a lesson from Canada: gun registries are later used to confiscate guns

What happened when Australian citizens had to turn in their guns?

An easy way to contact all your political leaders and tell them not to promote un-Constitutional laws.  Just a few clicks and they’ll know where you stand.

Five Facts to Fire at the Gun-Grabbers

1. Gun violence has been declining.
2. Despite the politically driven hype, mass shootings are not becoming more frequent.
3. Schools are safer than they were.
4. There are more guns out there, despite (or more likely, causing) the decline in gun violence.
5. “Assault weapons” bans have no effect on crime or violence.

A must-see video about how the Democrats and media “elites” mock and dismiss anyone who disagrees with them, even while ignoring that many people support these actions and that those hypocrites have armed guards at the schools of their children.

Too bad the Republicans don’t put out ads like this.

Man shoots robbery suspect to protect his 2-year-old son – Why didn’t Obama bring this family to his press conference?  Why doesn’t the media trumpet all the self-defense stories that save lives every day?

Why doesn’t the media tell you 24×7 about the mass shootings that never were, because an armed citizen saved the day?

Here are a “few” more:

Ann Coulter lists just a few examples of guns in the hands of bystanders saving lives by stopping massacres:

—Mayan Palace Theater, San Antonio, Texas, this week: Jesus Manuel Garcia shoots at a movie theater, a police car and bystanders from the nearby China Garden restaurant; as he enters the movie theater, guns blazing, an armed off-duty cop shoots Garcia four times, stopping the attack. Total dead: Zero.

—Winnemucca, Nev., 2008: Ernesto Villagomez opens fire in a crowded restaurant; concealed carry permit-holder shoots him dead. Total dead: Two. (I’m excluding the shooters’ deaths in these examples.)

—Appalachian School of Law, 2002: Crazed immigrant shoots the dean and a professor, then begins shooting students; as he goes for more ammunition, two armed students point their guns at him, allowing a third to tackle him. Total dead: Three.

—Santee, Calif., 2001: Student begins shooting his classmates — as well as the “trained campus supervisor”; an off-duty cop who happened to be bringing his daughter to school that day points his gun at the shooter, holding him until more police arrive. Total dead: Two.

—Pearl High School, Mississippi, 1997: After shooting several people at his high school, student heads for the junior high school; assistant principal Joel Myrick retrieves a .45 pistol from his car and points it at the gunman’s head, ending the murder spree. Total dead: Two.

—Edinboro, Pa., 1998: A student shoots up a junior high school dance being held at a restaurant; restaurant owner pulls out his shotgun and stops the gunman. Total dead: One.

Here are a couple more:

—Muskegon, Michigan: From the Aug. 23, 1995, issue of the Muskegon Chronicle: “Plans to slay everyone in the Muskegon, Michigan, store and steal enough cash and jewelry to feed their ‘gnawing hunger for crack cocaine’ fell apart for a band of would-be killers after one of their victims fought back. Store owner Clare Cooper was returning behind the counter after showing three of the four conspirators some jewelry, when one of the group pulled out a gun and shot him four times in the back. Stumbling for the safety of his bullet-proof glass-encased counter, Cooper managed to grab his shotgun and fire as the suspects fled.”

—Colorado Springs, Colo.: On Dec. 9, 2007, gunman Mathew Murray, 24, launched an armed attack against the parishioners of the New Life Church that ultimately left two innocent victims dead. But the toll could have been much higher, were it not for the heroic actions of former police officer Jeanne Assam from Minnesota. In an interview she said she very nearly decided not to go to church that morning but because she saw a headline on her computer indicating that two young people were murdered and a training center for Christian missionaries about 70 miles away in the Denver suburb of Arvada, she changed her mind. Murray shot a total of five people before an armed Assam shot and killed him. There were about 7,000 people at the church at the time of the attack.

This is why mass murders virtually always occur in gun-free zones. Only the most clueless liberals don’t know this. Despite the phony tears and sanctimonious rhetoric, they could not care less about preventing mass murders. Their only objective, other than to steal our money, is to snuff out liberty.

—-

Why do you need high-capacity magazines? – Again, you need one more round than all the bad guys after you.  And they generally don’t schedule their assaults against you and let you know how much firepower they are bringing, so you should be able to have all you like.

You definitely don’t want to have a gun if someone like this comes after you – right?  Because people like that would never harm you physically.

Great exposure of the hypocrites who “outed” lawful gun owners but don’t want to tell people that they don’t have guns (or worse yet, they actually own guns!).

And finally, the Queen of Hypocrisy, Diane Feinstein, who carried a gun herself but admits that she will disarm us all as soon as she has the votes.

“If I could’ve gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them — Mr. and Mrs. America turn ‘em all in — I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes weren’t here.”

Ann Coulter: Rude, but right in exposing moral schizophrenia

Note: Please don’t be one of those people who sit out the election because Romney isn’t a Christian or doesn’t perfectly align with your views.  The lesser of two evils is less evil.

And in this case, it is a lot less evil.

—–

Ann Coulter knows how to get attention.  I think she is over-the-top too often, but she is far more fact-based than anything I see on the Left.  And when her critics take the bait she exposes them for their extreme hypocrisy.

Consider the hand-wringing over her calling Obama a retard.  Of course she shouldn’t use terms like that.  But she wasn’t making fun of mentally retarded people, she was making fun of Obama.

More importantly, note the moral schizophrenia of those who criticize her for using a politically incorrect word referring to mentally retarded people while advocating for the legal destruction of those same people.

Remember, the Left celebrates the fact that they have reduced the number of people with Down Syndrome people by 90%.  Read that carefully: They haven’t prevented cases of Down Syndrome, they reduced the number of people with Down Syndrome by justifying the killing of them in the womb.

This illustration summarizes it perfectly (click here if you can’t see the image).

How long do you think it will be before Obamacare requires people to have abortions to eliminate “unfit” people?

And speaking of Obamacare, please don’t miss her latest column on the importance of electing Romney.  There are so many reasons he is vastly superior to Obama: The economy, religious freedom, the cause of life and more.  But the longest term impact will be whether we can put the brakes on the devastating consequences of Obamacare.

The single most important issue in this election is ending the national nightmare of Obamacare.

If Obamacare if not stopped, it will permanently change the political culture of this country. There will be no going back. America will become a less productive, less wealthy nation. What wealth remains will have to be plowed into Obamacare — to the delight only of the tens of thousands of government bureaucrats administering it.

. . .

You know who specializes in rescuing failing enterprises and making things work? Mitt Romney.

Contrary to ignorant slanders about Romney’s private sector work, his specialty was not buying thriving companies and stripping them for parts. Rather, the Bain Capital model was to take companies that were on the verge of collapse — about to cut all jobs, pensions and health care for their workers — and save the business.

Romney is the Red Adair of his profession. He’s like a doctor who specializes in multiple gunshot wounds or an oncologist who takes only Stage 4 cancer patients. Yes, there were layoffs, but also lots and lots of jobs, profit, success, efficiency, saved businesses and saved lives.

. . .

Not only has Romney promised to issue a 50-state waiver from Obamacare on his first day in office and then seek a formal repeal and replacement, but he’ll know how to do it. The savior of dying companies will fix health care in this country so that no Democrat will be able to wreck it again.

The only way to rid ourselves of this national poison pill, set to destroy both health care and the nation at large, is to elect Mitt Romney our next president.

Roundup

Great advice from a South Carolina sheriff for ladies to arm themselves to defend against rapists.  I loved this part:

And, of course, there are already the oh-so-predictable cries of ‘but – what about fair trials! Vigilantism!” and ‘oh noes, presuming guilt before innocence’ as an idjit on MSNBC blathered today . . .

The Sheriff’s response? “Well, it’s easy to fix that. Just don’t attack a woman.” But to the left, that’s just pesky logic – reality is hard for them. They are more worried about the rapists and their alleged’rights’ than they are the women being violently assaulted and raped. Let me explain a little something to you, Mr. Craig Melvin of MSNBC – when a woman is being raped, she knows she is being raped. There is no ‘presuming guilt before innocence’because she is being raped; the assaulter is raping her. And self-defense is not vigilante justice. I’m not surprised you can’t tell the difference, though. Given that y’all on the left continue to embrace the Occupy Wall Street movement rather than denouncing it and therampant sexual assaults therein. We women should just shut up and suck it up, right? I mean, what’s a little rape if it’s for an agenda?

Another sad consequence of government recognition of same-sex unions:

Can you imagine forcing foster children to suffer just so you can advance your political agenda?

Of course not!

When I first learned that the gay marriage movement is right now actively working to shut down religious foster and adoption agencies my heart dropped. I could not believe it.

When Illinois passed a “civil union” law, the state began demanding that adoption agencies place children with same-sex couples.

And when groups such as Catholic Charities or the Evangelical Child and Family Agency refused due to religious objections, the state ripped up their contracts!

Ann Coulter on liberal racism — Why Our Blacks are Better Than Their Blacks.  Read it all, but here are some snippets:

By spending the last three decades leveling accusations of “racism” every 10 seconds, liberals have made it virtually impossible for Americans to recognize real racism — for example, the racism constantly spewed at black conservatives.

. . .

The surge in conservative support for Herman Cain confuses the Democrats’ story line, which is that Republicans hate Obama because he’s black.

Cain is twice as black as Obama. (Possible Obama campaign slogan: “Too Black!”)

. . .

When Bush made Condoleezza Rice the first black female secretary of state, terror swept through the Democratic Party. What if people began to notice and ask questions: “Who’s that black woman always standing with George Bush?” Never mind! He’s probably arresting her.

In addition to an explosion of racist cartoons portraying Rice as Aunt Jemima, Butterfly McQueen from “Gone With the Wind,” a fat-lipped Bush parrot and other racist cliches, allegedly respectable liberals promptly called her stupid and incompetent.

Joseph Cirincione, then with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said Rice “doesn’t bring much experience or knowledge of the world to this position.” (Unlike Hillary Clinton, whose experience for the job consisted of being married to an impeached, disbarred former president.)

. . .

Trafficking in racist imagery is consequence-free for liberals because they have ruined charges of “racism” with their own overuse of the term. By now, any accusation of racism has the feel of a Big Foot sighting.

It’s a neat trick, rather as if the Nazis had called everything “genocide” right before launching the Holocaust, and then admonished resisters not to “play the genocide card.”

Liberals step on black conservatives early and often because they can’t have black children thinking, “Hmmm, the Republicans have some good ideas; maybe I’m a Republican.”

The basic setup is:

Step 1: Spend 30 years telling blacks that Republicans are racist and viciously attacking all black Republicans.

Step 2: Laugh maliciously at Republicans for not having more blacks in their party.

Modalism and Stockholm Syndrome in the Church — nice recap of a debate with a T.D. Jakes supporter (Jakes holds a heretical Oneness Pentecostal position but gets away with appearing to be a mainstream evangelical).  I loved the starting quote from John Calvin:

A dog barks when his master is attacked. I would be a coward if I saw that God’s truth is attacked and yet would remain silent.

Those who put unity over doctrine usually have bad doctrine.

It will be interesting to see where this goes — Breaking: Whistleblower alleges Texas Planned Parenthood committed massive Medicaid fraud (What??  You mean that people who kill the unborn for a living might commit financial misdeeds?)

According to the complaint:

The scheme included the express policy of billing these government health care programs for a predetermined list of reimbursable services for every eligible patient who visited the clinic, regardless of whether those services were medically necessary or ever actually provided to the patient….

PPGC policy regarding which medical services to provide and bill for depended in large part on who was paying the bill…. [S]elf-pay patients were provided services based on medical necessity. WHP, Medicaid, and Title XX patients, however, were provided a series of predetermined servicesbased on what those programs would pay for with the result that patients covered by government health programs were often provided services on an “across the board” basis even when such services were not medically necessary. The medical testing services most commonly provided to Medicaid and Title XX patients on an “across the board” basis… are:

a) Gonorrhea testing (Codes 87590 and 87591);
b) Chlamydia testing (Codes 87490 and 87491);
c) HIV testing;
d) Syphilis testing;
e) urinalysis (Codes 81002 and 81015);
f) hemoglobin blood count testing (Code 85018); and,
g) pregnancy testing

Because Medicaid guidelines allow for reimbursement for counseling on primary birth control and back-up bc, each Medicaid/WHP-eligible patient was also billed for both for every visit, although such counseling was not necessary and not given.

Another trick was to hand every contracepting patient a bag of condoms and vaginal film on her way out the door, despite the fact they were not needed or requested. This allowed PPGC to bill the government for, according to the complaint:

a. Condoms $4.20
b. Vaginal film $12.60
c. Method counseling $30.60 (Primary method, plus film and condoms as ‘back-up’ $10.20 X 3)
d. Problem counseling $10.45 (Under PPGC procedures, handing out condoms justified billing the government for ‘problem counseling’ because condoms are also used to prevent STD’s) (Code 99402 + Modifier FP [$10.45])

Abortion, capital punishment and Troy Davis

Given all the news about the Troy Davis execution (and the relative lack of news about the execution of James Byrd’s killer – -where are his defenders, by the way?), I thought it was time to re-run this simple pie chart.  (First, though, be sure to read Ann Coulter’s piece about Davis, which has a lot of specific, accessible facts that anyone is welcome to try and refute.  Oddly, none of the mainstream media pieces I’ve seen on him mention any of her facts.  It is almost as if they have an agenda . . .)

My main point here is to note that if the people complaining about Davis’ alleged innocence were remotely consistent, they would be going insane over the “capital punishment” of roughly 20,000 innocent human beings in the U.S. this week.  Their crime?  Being unwanted by their parent(s).  And they are completely, indistiputably, 100.00% innocent of any capital crimes.  But they get no trials, no t-shirts and no sympathy from the mainstream media or the Left.  They are just destroyed and forgotten.

Oh, and on the capital punishment / racism angle, remember that the abortion rate for blacks is 3 times that of whites.  Yet the Left reflexively plays the race card on the Right?!

pie_chart-abortion_and_capital_punishment.jpg

I was once asked why I am pro-life but not anti-capital punishment (I am in favor of capital punishment, but only if it is applied in a Biblical model). The pro-life / pro-capital punishment view is often ridiculed in the media and entertainment, and I have heard many Christians mock it as well.

The main reason I find the pro-life movement to be more important is shown in the pie chart above. Since the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision, there have been over one million abortions per year. I rounded down to a million and then calculated the weekly amount of 19,231 human beings killed per week. Then I graphed the average of 1 (one) death via capital punishment per week (actually, the average is about 0.65, but I rounded up). It took almost thirty years to mark the 1,000th execution since the Supreme Court ruled it was legal again.

So what you see is a rather odd pie chart. The capital punishment slice of the pie is almost invisible.

In a given week in the U.S., there are 19,231 deaths of completely innocent humans versus 1 death of a convicted murderer who survived an average of over 14 years of appeals, and whose guilt is virtually certain. (And this doesn’t even take into account the shattered lives of the  women/boyfriends/husbands/parents who live with the pain of having the abortions or encouraging someone to have one). That is why my energy would still be directed to the pro-life movement even if I thought that capital punishment was un-Biblical.

Actually, I am OK with unrestricted access to abortions – provided that the unborn get the same 10+ years of appeals that condemned killers do.

Or, to paraphrase Randy, I’m pro-choice as long as the unborn human being is the one making the life or death decision.

More on capital punishment here.

Greetings from Mt. Perspective

Courtesy of commenter Sunday School Teacher:

The U.S. Congress sets a federal budget every year in the trillions of dollars. Few people know how much money that is so we created a breakdown of federal spending in simple terms. Let’s put the 2011 federal budget into perspective:

U.S. income: $2,170,000,000,000
Federal budget: $3,820,000,000,000
New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000
National debt: $14,271,000,000,000
Recent budget cut: $ 38,500,000,000 (about 1 percent of the budget)

It helps to think about these numbers in terms that we can relate to. Let’s remove eight zeros from these numbers and pretend this is the household budget for the fictitious Jones family.

Total annual income for the Jones family: $21,700
Amount of money the Jones family spent: $38,200
Amount of new debt added to the credit card: $16,500
Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
Amount cut from the budget: $385

As the Left likes to say — including false teaching “Christians” — budgets are moral documents.  And our current budget is immoral.  This simply can’t last.  As Ann Coulter notes:

The entire Democratic Party is currently promising to “save” Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid in their present form. According to Obama’s own Treasury Secretary, Tim Geithner, in less than 10 years, spending on those three entitlement programs, plus servicing the national debt, will consume 92 cents of every dollar in the federal budget.

The Democrats are openly lying to voters. It is a mathematical impossibility for these programs to continue without major reform now, or complete bankruptcy later — and not very much later.

But Democrats’ real achievement has been in destroying the family, and thereby creating an endless supply of potential rioters.

When blacks were only four generations out of slavery, their illegitimacy rate was about 23 percent (lower than the white illegitimacy rate is now). Then Democrats decided to help them! Barely two generations since LBJ’s Great Society programs began, the black illegitimacy rate has tripled to 72 percent.

Meanwhile, the white illegitimacy rate has septupled, from 4 percent to 29 percent.

Instead of a “War on Poverty,” it should have been called a “War on the Family.”

The vast and permanent underclass created by the welfare state is a great success story for the Democratic Party, which now has a loyal constituency of deadbeats who automatically vote for the Democrats to keep their Trojan horse “benefits” flowing.

It’s the Democrats’ “heroin dealer” model of government.

Apparently, it takes a lot of government workers to minister to the poor, inasmuch as government employment has skyrocketed in tandem with the family’s disintegration. As long as Democrats are serving their principal constituency — recipients of taxpayer money — they don’t care what happens to the rest of society.

This is a great 1 minute video highlighting the immorality of the budget deficit: Making the youth and even the unborn (that is, those who aren’t aborted with the blessing of the Left) pay for these programs that are wildly counterproductive to those they claim to help.

Why Is That Christian Dressed Up Like a Psychic? – great article about decision making and the will of God and how sloppy some Christians get when it comes to rationalizing decisions.  From the intro:

This is a pandemic problem in evangelical churches. How many times have you heard someone say, “God told me,” “God lead me,” “God laid it on my heart,” etc? One would think that these individuals heard the audible voice of God; but no, they base their statements on their feelings: a liver quiver, a gut assumption, butterflies, etc. The problem is that there is nowhere in the Bible where God spoke to anyone through their feelings… not one example. So, whenever these Christians make these statements, they have noauthority or example in Scripture to prove that God is speaking to them. They thus are playing the psychic.

Francis Collins Changes His Tune On “Junk DNA” – Hmmmm.  Turns out that “junk” DNA isn’t so junky after all.  Actually, we’ve known that for some time, but I’m glad to see Collins acknowledge it.  I hope he reconsiders his oxymoronic theistic evolution as well.  People like him are useful tools for the Darwinist crowd.  Just watch the movie  Expelled! and see how they patronize those who try to rationalize that God guided Darwinian evolution.

Question: How Can We Know One Belief Selected for By Evolution is Superior to Another?

. . .

Theist:  Let me get this straight.  According to you, religious belief has at least two characterizes:  (1) it is false; and (2) evolution selected for it.

EM [looking a little pale now, because he’s just figured out where this is going]:  Correct.

Theist:  You believe the Neo-Darwinian Synthesis [NDS] is true.

EM:  Of course.

Theist:  How do you know your belief in NDS is not another false belief that evolution has selected for?

. . .

Don’t buy the lie that because Texas has lower ACT/SAT scores than Wisconsin that a lack of unionized teachers is the reason.  First, the money quote:

To recap: white students in Texas perform better than white students in Wisconsin, black students in Texas perform better than black students in Wisconsin, Hispanic students in Texas perform better than Hispanic students in Wisconsin

Now, a little more background.

The point being, I suppose, is that unionized teachers stand as a thin chalk-stained line keeping Wisconsin from descending into the dystopian non-union educational hellscape of Texas. Interesting, if it wasn’t complete bullshit.

As a son of Iowa, I’m no stranger to bragging about my home state’s ranking on various standardized test. Like Wisconsin we Iowans usually rank near the top of the heap on average ACT/SAT scores. We are usually joined there by Minnesota, Nebraska, and the various Dakotas; Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire…

… beginning to see a pattern? Perhaps because a state’s “average ACT/SAT” is, for all intents and purposes, a proxy for the percent of white people who live there. In fact, the lion’s share of state-to-state variance in test scores is accounted for by differences in ethnic composition. Minority students – regardless of state residence – tend to score lower than white students on standardized test, and the higher the proportion of minority students in a state the lower its overall test scores tend to be.

Please note: this has nothing to do with innate ability or aptitude. Quite to the contrary, I believe the test gap between minority students and white students can be attributed to differences in socioeconomic status. And poverty. And yes, racism. And yes, family structure. Whatever combination of reasons, the gap exists, and it’s mathematical sophistry to compare the combined average test scores in a state like Wisconsin (4% black, 4% Hispanic) with a state like Texas (12% black, 30% Hispanic).

Ann Coulter has a great summary of public sector unions.

As Obama rakes in historic campaign contributions from Wall Street money, liberals claim Republicans are beholden to “the rich.” However that may be, it is far more true, and far less remarked upon, that the Democratic Party is the party of public sector unions.

And now, the nation watches helplessly as public sector unions and their Democratic allies say to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker: Nice state you got there, governor. Be a shame if something bad happened to it.

For Democrats, the purpose of government is to generously provide jobs for people who otherwise couldn’t be hired — because their skills, attitude or sense of entitlement are considered undesirable in the private sector. And no, I’m not just talking about Barack Obama.

Democrats use taxpayer money to fund a government jobs program, impoverishing the middle class and harming the people allegedly helped by the programs — but creating a vast class of voters who owe their jobs to the Democrats.

This is a system designed to ratchet up costs. Look at the history of every entity where public employees have unionized, and you will find that not only are government workers paid more, but there are also a lot more of them doing a lot less useful work.

Kline accuses KS Supreme Court of obstructing justice to protect Tiller, Planned Parenthood – a serious miscarriage of justice is playing out in Kansas.  Lots of things haven’t been investigated:

What also came out during the trial was what the Supreme Court has never investigated to this day. While it desperately attempts to find unethical behavior on Kline’s part, it ignores actual potential violations of law on the part of state officials and abortion clinics (aside from illegal abortions and rape cover-ups):

1. Opening Kline’s mail, a federal offense: Documents Kline never requested but were sent to him at an incorrect address after he left the DA’s office and then returned, were opened by either the DA or AG and are currently being used against him in the ethics case.

2. Someone in AG Morrison’s office made a cd of all Kline’s abortion files and left it, along with some spreadsheets, on the desk of Tiller’s attorney, who kept them for over a year.

3. The Supreme Court ordered Kline to hand over all information he had obtained to AG Morrison on PPs nationwide.  This included evidence in prosecutions against PP in Ohio, videotapes from Lila Rose’s 1st video investigation of PP nationwide, and the names of PP employees who came forward to Kline from clinics around the country. Kline testified this prompted some of his sources to threaten litigation against him. But most importantly, “I’ve been told all that information was then turned over to attorneys for abortion clinics.”

Is Planned Parenthood still racist? You decide.  Their founder sure was.  The rate of abortions in the black community is 3x that of whites, and the taxpayer-funded abortions they lust after will make that ratio higher.

False teachers want to take away your rights, not reduce murders

What Liberals Don’t Know About Guns, Chapter 217 is a must-read by Ann Coulter. False teachers (1) will tell you that we have to restrict gun ownership, but they (deliberately?) ignore the only solution proven to work.

The ACLU won’t let us put nuts in mental hospitals and Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik wouldn’t lock up Loughner even after he had broken the law several times.

In an open society that includes Sheriff Dumbnik and the ACLU, deranged individuals may explode into murder and mayhem now and then. The best we can do is enact policies that will reduce the death toll when these acts of carnage occur.

There’s only one policy of any kind that has ever been shown to deter mass murder: concealed-carry laws.

(1) False teachers include people like Jim “the Gospel is all about wealth redistribution” Wallis and race-baiting Chuck “Jesus is not the only way” Currie

False teacher doubles down, ignores Lefty violence

In a move surprising no one, false teacher Chuck “Jesus is not the only way” Currie, doubles down in “Tragedy In Arizona” by blaming Palin, Beck and more for the shootings by the Liberal nut  in Arizona.  He not only refuses to recant of his libel against Palin & Co., he makes more false accusations.  Then again, this is a pro-abortion “reverend” who takes little girls to gay pride parades and mocks the Bible.

Heck, Chuck and the Souther Poverty Law Center can’t even bring themselves to criticize Democrat Fred Phelps (see Democrat Fred Phelps and Westboro Hate Group announce plans to picket 9-year-old shooting victim Christina Greene’s funeral. A new low for Democrat hate groups.)

Courtesy of the Wintery Knight, here’s a little list of other things that Chuck and the Southern Poverty Law Center deliberately ignore.

Before letting the media continue to perpetuate a stereotype that may not actually exist at all, let me give you the facts that U.S. journalists refuse to cite. Let me show you where real violence comes from, and I don’t even need to mention the millions of babies killed every year by progressives or even the tens of millions of people murdered by their communist heroes.
