I gave an overview of Care Net at our church service last Sunday and emphasized the need for people to be aware of it.  I referred to one friend in the congregation who had pointed someone to Care Net and saved an untold amount of carnage in one family.  The situation was very ugly at the start but the couple ended up getting married and have a beautiful 4 yr. old boy, and having Care Net there made a big difference.

Then there was this note from her today:

Wanted to let you know that a lady sitting next to me at church on Sunday was so happy to hear your message about CareNet.  She started crying and hugged me.  She said that she knew God sent her to church for this reason….her granddaughter is a single, pregnant women considering abortion.  As soon as she let go I went back to look for some brochures on CareNet . . . she was grateful and is going to talk to her granddaughter about CareNet.

Please pray that this woman finds the support she needs and makes the right choice.

If you volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center, donate money or pray, that is much appreciated.  But if you just know they exist and point people there that is great, too.

Make no mistake: It is a matter of when, not if you’ll meet or hear of someone who needs the forgiveness, hope and healing that only Jesus can provide.

If you point people to CareNet, God may use you to help save lives today and for eternity.

Here’s a sample of prayer requests this week:

Birthmother’s Day celebration

Birthmother’s Day observed by women who gave children up for adoption — one of my sisters-in-law works for Adoption Network Cleveland.  They organized this celebration for birthmothers.

Another sister-in-law is in the 2nd picture on the linked page hugging her adopted son’s birth mother.  The young lady’s mother and grandmother had died and she lost her college scholarship due to an injury.  The birthfather said he’d leave if she didn’t have an abortion (they leave 90% of the time anyway, but the women don’t know that).

So against all odds, she had the child and gave him up for adoption.  Praise God for that!  And I have another nephew.  Gotta love that hair!

Abstinence – still the best option

wedding-rings2.jpgThoughts on various articles on abstinence and sex education.

The MSM and Planned Parenthood types like to trumpet studies that say abstinence programs don’t work.  But here’s an interesting perspective: Abstinence Doesn’t Help or Hurt; Sex Ed Doesn’t Work.  Check it out.  It examines what really does work (Hint: It doesn’t involve “hip” adults, condoms and bananas.)   Also see Does Anything Work in Sex Education?

Of course Planned Parenthood hates abstinence programs.  And Burger King probably wishes McDonald’s wasn’t around.  But even by Planned Parenthood’s own stats they are a dismal failure at contraception for youths.  Overall failure rates for contraceptives (mainly the pill and condoms) are “only” 1 in 8, but things get ugly when you look at sub-groups:

A poor cohabiting teenager using the Pill has a failure rate of 48.4%. You read that correctly: nearly half of poor cohabiting teenagers get pregnant during their first year using the Pill.

Over 70% of poor, cohabiting teenagers using condoms, will be pregnant within a year. By contrast, the middle-aged, middle-class married woman has a 6% chance of pregnancy after a year of condom use.

Planned Parenthood and its allies in the sex education business have had conniptions over federal funding for abstinence education. But at least abstinence actually works. If you don’t have sex, you won’t get pregnant. It works every time.

You also don’t get diseases and emotional trauma.

We don’t give federal grants to tobacco companies to teach students “low-risk” forms of smoking on the grounds that “kids are going to smoke anyway.” We shouldn’t be giving federal grants to groups that sell contraception, to teach kids to use contraception.

Here’s one study that said abstinence programs help that the MSM seems to have missed.

Good reasons for abstinence (I’ll add links when I come across them again.  Too lazy to search for them all now):

  1. Those who abstain before marriage report the highest levels of satisfacton in sex.  Monogamous couples report the best and most active sex lives.
  2. 50% higher divorce rate for those who don’t abstain.
  3. Highest rates of fidelity in marriage (practicing breaking God’s rules appears to be a bad way to start marriage).
  4. Introduction of sex in dating almost always leads to the breakup.  If a guy or gal says, “If you love me you will . . .” the relationship is probably doomed.
  5. Sexually Transmitted Diseases can be dormant for a long time and can be passed to others.
  6. Get a high school diploma and abstain from sex and your odds of living in poverty in the U.S. are slim.  Do the opposite and the odds go up dramatically.

Abstinence works.  Since very, very few people get pregnant via unplanned in vitro fertilizations your chance of pregnancy with abstinence is virtually zero.
