I saw a Spike Lee film many years ago (before I knew better) and I completely misread his ending.  I was being charitable and assumed that the black characters were being introspective when noting how the Asians in the neighborhood seemed to work hard and prosper while they did not.  Only later did I find out that I had missed the real “truth” that it was only because of racism that there could be any disparity.  It had nothing to do with things like this:
