Stop me if you’ve heard this before:
The Protestant doctrine of justification by faith alone means they believe they think they can sin as much as they want and still be saved!
When you get that — and you will, if you interact much with Catholics online — just ask if the Bible addresses that possibility. Then listen to the crickets chirping. Then ask them if they’ve ever read Romans.
Romans 6:15 What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!
What?! You mean Paul asked and answered their question? Yes, we’ve had that answer for nearly 2,000 years. If they read the Bible for themselves, they would know it.
Seriously, ask it nicely and try to plant seeds. Hopefully they’ll realize that if they read their Bibles more they’d know the truth.
Next!
Priceless. I’ve actually had that discussion already, and have had the same response when I posted Romans 6:15—crickets chirping

That one is so clear. I figure if it doesn’t at least plant a seed then it proves they aren’t interested in what God really says.

That is the sad part – they aren’t interested in the truth.

I actually believe that those saved by grace can sin all they want and still be saved. That’s because I believe that those saved by grace experiences a change in “want” (1 John 3:9).

I think you are right, but for some of us change is a very slow process. God has worked long and hard on me and I still have a way to go.
I am just awed and thankful every day that he has not given up on me.

“…they believe they think they can sin as much as they want and still be saved!”
As this post is sandwiched between two speaking about the Christian left, I just thought I’d point out how the above quote describes the left rather well, though they pretend they sincerely believe they are not sinning.

I love that verse…good to use for someone who subscribe to Cheap Grace as well

The problem I have with the “faith only” doctrine is that it refuses to see that the NT is full of examples of people being moved by faith to obedience! Read the faith hall of fame found in Hebrews 11. In every case it doesn’t just say “so-and-so had great faith”, but it goes on to say how that faith moved them to obedience!!
The fact is that grace is what saves us. But one must have an active, obedient faith to accept that gift!
P.S. I am NOT catholic.
