Fake Christian Chuck Currie is as excited about conducting “same-sex marriage” ceremonies as he is about baby-killing

It is kind of a coin flip.  Radical pro-abortionist and false teacher Chuck “Jesus is not the only way” Currie took a break from taking little girls to gay pride parades to perform some “same-sex marriage” ceremonies in Oregon, where a gay judge just “happened” to overturn the will of the people and allow these fake marriages.  Chuck is super-duper pro-abortion, so it is hard to tell which he enjoys more.

Via Pacific University’s Rev. Chuck Currie talks about emotional experience of performing same-sex wedding ceremonies | OregonLive.com.

The Rev. Chuck Currie, named as Pacific University’s  director of the Center for Peace and Spirituality, donned his robe and stole May 19 to perform wedding ceremonies in Portland for same-sex couples.

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Michael McShane overturned Oregon’s ban on same-sex marriage, using strikingly personal language in his decision. Couples then rushed to officially exchange vows.

. . .

Currie will start full time with Pacific in the fall. He’ll oversee religious studies and social justice programs, teach, and act as university chaplain. He also serves at Sunnyside Churchand University Park Church in Portland, though he said he’s transitioning out of those positions.

But where will the combined membership (probably about 17 people) go to hear worldly “wisdom” passed off as being from God?

The good news is that no one has any excuses for following a false teacher like Chuck.  When God requires them to give an account for their life they’ll have to admit that they knew Chuck was peddling a false gospel, but that they didn’t want to hear the truth.

Come, Lord Jesus, come.

“And what if we picked the wrong religion? Every week we’re just making God madder and madder.”

Someone Tweeted this today so I thought I’d rerun it with some bonus features.

_____

The title is from the episode of The Simpsons where Homer decides to stop attending church.

Marge: I can’t believe you’re giving up church, Homer.

Homer: Hey, what’s the big deal about going to some building every Sunday?  I mean, isn’t God everywhere?  And don’t you think that the Almighty has better things to worry about than where one little guy spends one measly hour of his week? And what if we picked the wrong religion?  Every week we’re just making God madder and madder.

Bart: Testify!

Marge: [Groans]

In one of those odd ways where someone speaks some truth without knowing it, it reminds me of this important passage:

1 Corinthians 15:12–18 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

So the Apostle Paul seems to agree with Homer, at least in one sense: If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, we are misrepresenting God – and that’s never a good place to be.   And the writers even have Homer realizing that not all religions are the same.  How do you discern which is right?  Look at the facts.

But the evidence points to the fact that He did rise from the dead, and that changes everything.

—–

As I noted in a recent post, Christianity is unique in that it is testable and falsifiable.  You can research the truth claims yourself.  Christianity involves knowledge, truth claims and faith in evidence.  Many people think religions are just a matter of opinion or are the result of “blind faith,” but that is the opposite of Christianity.

There are all sorts of apologetics resources (see the links to the right of this blog) or even simple things like the minimal facts approach, where nearly 100% of historical scholars from 1975 – present agree with the following statements and 75% of the same scholars agree that the tomb was empty:

  • Jesus really lived and was killed on a Roman cross.
  • Jesus’ disciples believed He appeared to them.
  • Jesus’ brother, James, went from being a pre-crucifixion skeptic to a post-crucifixion church leader.
  • The Apostle Paul believed Jesus appeared to him and he wrote most of the books attributed to him, including Romans, I & II Corinthians, Philemon and others.  He converted from persecuting Christians to being the greatest evangelist ever, despite nearly constant challenges, persecution and ultimately dying for his faith.

The Christian view that the physical resurrection of Jesus best accounts for these facts is highly supportable and logical.

This explains those who reject God.

Romans 1:18–20 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Romans 2:15-16 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

This sums it up as well:

To defy the Creator’s commands, you must ignore His exclusive right to rule His own creation as He wishes. You have to exalt yourself to a level of imaginary importance that would make Him at least second in command–if you are that generous–and place yourself first in command over the part of His creation you want to control–in this case, yourself. The arrogance of such a feat is astounding…No wonder there is a Hell! — Jim Berg

It is foolish and rebellious to think that you get to define whether God exists and what He must be like. Repent and believe while you still have time. Eternity is a mighty long time to suffer for your pride.

Agreement with Ehrman – Bart Ehrman makes a good living being an “ex-Christian.”  Yet as a textual critic he has a surprising number of points of agreements with us that are useful to remind atheists of when they parrot common sound bites.

In Rob Bowman’s review of Bart Ehrman’s new book, How Jesus Became God, he enumerates the many points of agreement evangelicals have with Ehrman:

I think evangelicals should be quick to acknowledge and even capitalize on a large number of agreements that they can have with Ehrman about Jesus and Christology. These include but are not limited to the following facts:

Jesus was a real historical person, a Galilean Jew who preached the kingdom of God. Ehrman has devoted a whole book to defending this fact.

The canonical Gospels are the earliest and, for all practical purposes, the only valuable sources of detailed information about the historical Jesus. The “Gnostic” gospels and other apocryphal writings date from much later and are not significant sources of historical information about Jesus.

Jesus thought he was, or at least would become, the Messiah.

Jesus was crucified at the order of Pontius Pilate.

Jesus actually died on the cross.

Some of Jesus’ original followers sincerely believed they saw Jesus alive from the dead.

(Already, we’ve eliminated about 90 percent of the nonsense we so often hear from skeptics about Jesus! And we’re not done.)

Bill Maher defends Sterling: “Who wants to live in a world where the only privacy you have is inside your head?” – From the “when pigs fly” category where I appreciate what Maher said.

Remember “HANDS” When Arguing for Jesus’ Deity – This is helpful!

Does the Bible teach that Jesus is God? Over at Come Reason’s Apologetics Notes, Lenny Esposito has a summary of the acronym “HANDS” given in the book Putting Jesus in His Place: The Case for the Deity of Christ (by Rob Bowman and Ed Komoszewski):

1. Jesus shares the HONORS due only to God.

2. Jesus shares the ATTRIBUTES of God.

3. Jesus shares the NAMES that are used of God.

4. Jesus shares in the DEEDS that only God can do.

5. Jesus shares the SEAT of God—that is, Jesus sits on God’s throne.

Hollywood’s Sexual Predator Problem Explodes – Creepy, but not terribly surprising.

Hollywood is sick, sick, sick. Behind its curtain of holier-than-thou progressivism, the entertainment world’s top A-list stars have engaged in the most depraved sexual abuse against vulnerable children and teens, according to a growing number of victims. After years of cover-up, the institutional scandal is exploding. Finally.

The latest alleged atrocities involve “X-Men” director Bryan Singer and at least three other power players in the business: veteran television executive Garth Ancier, former Disney executive David Neuman and producer Gary Goddard. Last month, former child actor and model Michael Egan filed civil suits against the men, alleging that they passed around underage boys “like pieces of meat at sex parties” in the late 1990s. Egan’s X-rated lawsuit exposes a cabal of alleged predators who plied young boys and teens with hard drugs and alcohol before sexually assaulting them.

Only “Pharisees” Question the Validity of Colton Burpo’s “Heaven Is For Real”?

If Christians question how biblical the hit movie Heaven Is For Real is, well, “they must be Pharisees,” according to Todd Burpo in a recent Christianity Today article. Burpo is the father of the little boy, Colton, who allegedly went to heaven and came back. Todd Burpo collaborated with his son, who was 4 years old at the time of his alleged heavenly encounter, to pen the runaway bestseller Heaven Is For Real, which has now been turned into a hit movie.  Todd Burpo was also asked in the interview what his response would be to those who have challenged or raised concerns about Heaven Is For Real.  His response: “Read your Bible.”

We do read the Bible.  A lot.  Which is why we think books like this are false.

EXCLUSIVE: Amy Grant In Her First Gay Press Interview — I’m with the Wintery Knight on this one.  Grant equates sexual behavior with skin color and even hair color.  Ugh.

I have this suspicion of Christian celebrities, because I think they are far too worried about being liked, and far too unable to base their views on logic and evidence. I don’t think we should have the respect we have for sports people, artists and actors. They are there to entertain. If you are looking for authentic Christianity, look to Christian scholars or even ordinary Christians who are able to make a defense for their views.

THE FALL FROM GRACE OF CONTROVERSIAL EPISCOPAL BISHOP GENE ROBINSON CONTINUES – His utter selfishness has been manifested throughout his false-teaching career, from divorcing his wife and abandoning his two kids so he could pursue his aberrant sexuality to splitting a major denomination.  His pretend marriage has been followed by a pretend divorce.  Like the blind men of Sodom he continues to grope at the door in rebellion against God.  I hope that he repents and believes and that those he has misled do so as well.

The #RapeCulture of Planned ParenthoodYet another tragic example of them hiding rape.  People who kill babies for a living will do all sorts of evil things.  Planned Parenthood* kills babies for a living, they systematically hide rape, incest and sex trafficking, they encourage kids to have all sorts of out-of-wedlock sex and pretend that it can be done without risks, they would rather destroy a breast cancer charity than part ways amicably, they commit Medicaid fraud, they teach kids the joys of BDSM, and so much more. Their leaders and abortionists get rich off of death and misery, aided by your taxes.  They use some of that money to fund propaganda telling women that if they aren’t willing to kill their children that they can’t be equal in value to men.

From Moonbattery via The Bumbling Genius – this sums it up well.

Islam perfectly concentrates everything liberals say is evil into a single ideology (male dominance, abuse of women, imperialism, violence, religious fundamentalism, intolerance of perversion, etc.), yet liberals side with Muslims reflexively, elevating them even above homosexuals to the top of their caste system.

Of leprechauns, mermaids, and “loving homosexual couples” – Yep.  That term is a favorite of the faux orthodox theological Left, but it is just another lie.

The whole stands or falls, of course, on the definition of “love.” If “love” means sexual arousal, well then, okey doke sport, I guess if you say so. Or if it means fondness, affection, attraction, or a hundred other emotional and even volitional states… well, how would we even have the discussion? If it’s all about emotion, the “discussion” is really beside the point, isn’t it? Feelings are thought…well, felt… to be self-validating. After all, you’ve got to follow your heart, right? And your heart is all about what you feel. Right?
Unless you start with the fear of God (Prov. 1:7) instead of the lordship of Ego. Then, everything changes.
. . .

It is to acknowledge that our hearts cannot be trusted (Prov. 28:26 {NAS]; Jer. 17:9). It is to acknowledge that real life is only found in knowing God through His word (Prov. 3:18; 4:13; John 6:63, 68). It is to see that rebellion and unbelief are the sure way of death and misery (Gen. 2:17; Pro. 8:36; Rom. 6:23).
As we learn from God how He wants us to treat others, we learn that He wants us to love them, even if they are our enemies (Lev. 19:18; Matt. 5:44). We learn that love is not primarily about feeling. Love is about doing what is for the greatest good of the other, even if that costs us (cf. Exod. 23:4-5; Prov. 25:21). We see the grandest display of love in the Father’s gift of His son for our salvation (John 3:16; 1 John 4:9).

So, you see, there never was such a thing as a “loving homosexual couple.” Nor was there ever yet a “loving adulterous couple,” or a “loving fornicating couple.” Accomplices? Yes. Co-conspirators, co-perpetrators? Sure. But loving? Never.
Love is a commitment to the good of the other — and rebellion against God is never for the good of the other. Sin against God is never for the good of the other. Turning away from life and love and forgiveness and
reconciliation, and embracing guilt and wrath and doom and despair, wrapped in a straitjacket of rationalizations and distractions — these things are never about the good of the other.
Real love will point someone away from sin and death, and to Christ, the Gospel, life and forgiveness. If that
Christward call to repentant faith is absent, so is love.
This is one of those cases where the crystal-clear thinking that the fear of God teaches can stand as a bright beacon of witness to God’s wisdom, in our murky, fogbound culture.

Third-ranking House Democrat won’t condemn calling Clarence Thomas an “Uncle Tom” – Yet he is still employed.  Racism: Still a one-way street.

The problem with zero-calorie sweeteners – Health risks and counterproductive impacts (i.e., making you crave more sweets).  Just stick with sugar – but use less of it.

Is there evidence for Jesus outside the Bible? – Yes, lots, including references to specific events with apparently widespread awareness.

Phlegon (80-140AD)
In a manner similar to Thallus, Julius Africanus also mentions a historian named Phlegon who wrote a chronicle of history around 140AD. In this history, Phlegon also mentions the darkness surrounding the crucifixion in an effort to explain it . . .

Former NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg thinks he is God – That is, he thinks he gets to sit in judgment of the real God and tell him how eternity works.  This is a sad but predictable view of lost people.  They think they get to decide what “good” is, then do a little of it – or, more precisely, demand that others do it – then do a victory lap and insist that God must let them in Heaven.  They need to hear the bad news (they are sinners in need of a Savior) and then the Good News (that Jesus is that Savior, but only if they come on God’’

But if he senses that he may not have as much time left as he would like, he has little doubt about what would await him at a Judgment Day. Pointing to his work on gun safety, obesity and smoking cessation, he said with a grin: “I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”

The Framing and Betrayal of Cliven Bundy – I haven’t followed this case closely, but I do know two things.  First, the media edited the videos to make the guy look like a racist so they could dismiss him.  Second, if Bundy’s actions warrant Federal intervention, then the Feds should be a million times more aggressive with what illegal aliens are doing.

Democrats Abort Their Texas Takeover – Great news!  The Left has given up on Abortion Barbie’s chances.

The Donald Sterling Precedent – Yes, Kareem nailed it.  People knew how bad Sterling was for a long time.  He is a super jerk.  But do we really want people to be destroyed for something they said in private?  Be careful what you wish for, folks.  If you think that people won’t (or haven’t already) found out how to record audio and video of you through your computer then you are mistaken.  Do you want them to be able to use that against you?

Better yet, will the Left try to destroy all the Sharptons, Jacksons, rappers, etc. saying racist things?

She’s back: Mia Love clinches the Republican nomination in Utah’s 4th – Yea!  And of course, if you agree with me about how great this is you must also be a racist misogynist or something.

What about gluttony?  — “Why do conservative Christians make such a fuss about homosexuality and give everyone a free pass—most notably themselves—when it comes to gluttony?”

U.S. now producing more than 10 percent of the world’s crude oil – Yea!  Now if we could just get Keystone approved.  Think of all the jobs, lower energy costs, energy independence and more!

Just a Reminder – for those lamenting the “botched” execution of Clayton Lockett.  The solution is to find ways to kill them more quickly.

The left is terribly outraged about Clayton Lockett’s death. They likewise have a hard time understanding how someone can be pro-life, but also support the death penalty. These people treated Kermit Gosnell as a local crime story, but demand national outrage over Clayton Lockett’s execution.

One person not morally preening or saying anything at all on the matter of Clayton Lockett’s execution is Stephanie Neiman. In all the discussion over how Clayton Lockett was executed, few have paid attention to Miss. Neiman.

Clayton Lockett beat her, bound her with duct tape, covered her mouth, shot her, then buried her alive.

Just remember that while you are posturing over how Clayton Lockett died.
