The Mess of the Message: Denying Christ On The Printed Page — I’ve written before about serious problems with The Message, but this post added a host of new and serious issues.  Also note how it removes a reference to homosexuality and inserts a “green” passage.  Friendly reminder: It isn’t a Bible.  In many places it is the opposite of the Bible.

People have lost their minds.  Remember that these are educators coming up with these things.

Boy Suspended Just for SAYING the Word Gun

Campus bans guns, tells people to nod at attackers

The Affordable Care Act — and by affordable, we mean more expensive — They were caught lying.  Again.  Although we didn’t have to wait until now to know it.

This is bizarre “tolerance” of Liberals:

  1. It is bad to judge. [What they claim Conservatives do and what they themselves do non-stop.]
  2. It is good to judge others for judging. [What Liberals do.]
  3. It is very bad to judge others for their hypocrisy of judging others for judging.  [What Liberals don’t like for us to point out.]

While Denying Tea Party, IRS Grants Tax-Exempt Status to Radical Leftists and Terrorists

Ergun Caner Cover-Up — This is such a sad case.  The guy was caught lying over and over and too many Christian leaders, churches and schools looked the other way or helped him cover his tracks.  The documentation is very thorough, even though he is working hard to cover it up.  If the guy had repented it would be different, but he shows no remorse.

Profiles in Countermoonbattery: Ondray Harris — here’s a great guy who quit when he was told not to hire any conservatives or whites.  We need more courage like that.  Oh, and he’s black.

The Contempt of PZ Myers — He really, really opposes schools that teach critical thinking.

None of the above keeps PZ from frothing at the mouth that: “There is no controversy!” Evolution happened…get over it. Really, PZ, “no controversy”? Guess PZ’s been too busy ranting and raving about ID and “Creationism” to keep up with what is actually happening in his own field of biology. Let’s see, can anyone name one aspect of evolution and its supposed mechanisms that isn’t hotly debated and controversial even among evolutionary biologists? Pick one – common descent, natural selection, gene transfer, phylogentics, gene duplication, genetic drift, mutation, etc etc – not one single supposed driving engine of evolution is uncontroversial within evolutionary biology itself. It continually amazes me that every single aspect of Darwinian evolution is hotly debated and controversial, yet the Darwinian faithful, like PZ pound their fists on their desks yelling “evolution is a fact, Fact, FACT!” What is telling, is how rabidly PZ and others of his ilk want to keep students in public schools from ever knowing about or even hearing about such controversies.

Master Sergeant Punished for Serving Chick-fil-A at Party

DOMA is the law of the land, but the rogue Obama Regime refuses to enforce it.

A year later, the Master Sergeant is still bogged down in a legal battle. The lesson is passed down from Obama through the military as clearly as it is through the IRS: do not say, do, or even think anything that a liberal might not like, or you will suffer consequences.

A few more examples:

One service member received a severe reprimand for expressing his faith’s religious position about homosexuality in a personal religious blog.

A chaplain was relieved of his command over a military chapel because he could not allow same-sex weddings to take place in the chapel.

And a chaplain who asked senior military officers whether religious liberty would be protected in the wake of the repeal of the law against open homosexual behavior in the military was told to “get in line” or resign.

The world has seen other governments that forcibly repressed Christianity. But not even the Soviet Union attempted to impose reverence for sexual perversion. It wasn’t sufficiently morally depraved.

10 thoughts on “Roundup”

  1. The “Message” is a complete MESS, full of heresy and new age teachings. And yet I have never, ever heard it denounced from any pulpit even though congregants are seen carrying it. And so-called “Christian” book stores sell this poison just for the money it brings them.

Anti-gun zero-tolerance policies in the government schools is just one of the many reasons sane people should send their children elsewhere for education.

What is so sad about the Caner incident is that he and his brother did a wonderful service with their excellent book, “Unveiling Islam.” I bought a couple cases of them for passing out in our book ministry, so people would know the truth about Islam. Then the Caner case came out and questions were raised about whether the information in the book is true (yes it is), and his credibility was shot. So I had to find another book which isn’t questioned.

Evolutionists are so so funny – very dogmatic about their religion and don’t want any exposure of its totally false suppositions. “I can’t hear you – nyah, nyah, nyah!!” And they have the audacity to mock Christians.

Great graphics collection. Great for posting on FB :oD

  2. The Message is not my favorite translation, that’s for sure. I think it takes too many liberties with the text. I consider it more of a paraphrase than a translation and I would not use it for serious Bible study. But Evans’s analysis of The Message in this post is terrible. It is not scholarly, it is one-sided and it is unfair. For example:

“The word ‘Lord’ appears 7970 times in the King James Version, more than any other noun. In fact this is God’s name, in Hebrew it’s Yahweh. In the Message the word Lord appears 71 times.”

Evans implies that The Message is trying to avoid recognizing God’s lordship. I don’t see it. Here are just a few of the 82 references to “lord” in The Message:

    Psalm 8:1 GOD, brilliant Lord,
    yours is a household name.

Psalm 16:2 I say to GOD, “Be my Lord!”
    Without you, nothing makes sense.

Matt 11:25 Abruptly Jesus broke into prayer: “Thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth.”

John 11:2 This was the same Mary who massaged the Lord’s feet with aromatic oils and then wiped them with her hair.

If The Message is trying to deny the lordship of God or Jesus, it is doing a very poor job!

“By refusing to call Jesus ‘Lord’ Peterson has placed himself in the same class as Judas, and possibly for the same reasons.”

This is a heinous thing to say! Evans should be ashamed of himself.

There are plenty of reasons to be critical of The Message. Evans just does a really bad job of it.

    1. Of course “The Message” is a paraphrase – I hope NO ONE claims differently. While Evans may not have done the best examination of it, many others have, and have proven that it sometime says exactly the reverse of what the Bible says, that there are New Age teachings all through it, and so much more wrong about that it would take a separate post – or even a book.

While this site is of KJVO cult origin, their examination of “The Mess” gives a lot of good stuff.

Here are some other sites I have saved in my “favorites” folder:

Unfortunately, one really good link no longer works!

      1. That first link you gave? (Which apparently is where Evans plagiarized most of his blog post. Nice.) More garbage.

Well, not complete garbage. It does raise two or three valid points. But it’s still 90% garbage.

So Judas only ever referred to Jesus as Master and not as Lord? Huh. Did you ever do a word study on the word “master” in the New Testament? PETER called Jesus “Master” (Luke 5:5, 8:45, 9:33), JOHN called Jesus “Master” (Luke 9:49) and the disciples (we don’t know which ones) call Him “Master” (Luke 8:24). We don’t really know if Judas ever referred to Jesus as Lord or not, because the Gospels do not record every event of Jesus’s life. And as I said above, The Message actually AFFIRMS God and Christ as Lord.

And apparently the Message is promoting New Age ideology when it promotes “one-ness” and “unity” and “light”. Huh. As in, we are “one body” in Christ (Rom 12:5)? Or the “unity” of the Spirit (Eph 4:3)? Or Jesus as the “light” of the world (John 8:12)? These are not New Age concepts, they are biblical concepts appropriated by New Age ideology.

Are you sure I should click on the second link you gave? Because this one and Evans’s were not worth my time.

Again, my disclaimer: I am definitely not defending The Message. I’m criticizing THIS critique of The Message.

      2. Stopped when I got to this point:

“In keeping with his [Billy Graham’s] love for every corrupt Bible version to appear since the Revised Standard….”

Nope. I’m not reading any more of that trash.

And if you want to prove that Peterson is advancing a New Age agenda you’ll have to do better than “choice of words.” That was my point above when I pointed out how ridiculous it is to criticize The Message for using terminology of “oneness,” “unity,” and “light”. Ridiculous and irresponsible.

        My disclaimer above still applies.

      3. No thank you. See, once you start spouting rhetoric like that, I don’t trust your “facts.”

No, when I’m ready I’ll do my own research on how reliable The Message is, using reputable sources.

      4. The facts he has about Peterson are 100% true. I have read lots of stuff by and about him. Also, his comparisons of The Mess to the Bible are factual. It saves you the time comparing them.

I have a Mess/NIV parallel Bible which I’m hoping to get a chance to do an article on sometime. But I used it to check what people say and I’ve never found inaccuracies in any report.
