Do-Gooders Aim to Round Up Indians Escaped From Reservation — this is a great example of why less government is better.  The U.S. Gov’t has tried to help the American Indians more than any other group yet the efforts have been counterproductive — just like they are when they “help” other people.

The most destructive addiction to afflict American Indians isn’t alcohol; it’s government help, as John Stossel explains:

“The U.S. government has “helped” no group more than it has “helped” the American Indians. It stuns me when President Obama appears before Indian groups and says things like, “Few have been ignored by Washington for as long as Native Americans.”

Ignored? Are you kidding me? They should be so lucky. The government has made most Indian tribes wards of the state. Government manages their land, provides their health care, and pays for housing and child care. Twenty different departments and agencies have special “native American” programs. The result? Indians have the highest poverty rate, nearly 25 percent, and the lowest life expectancy of any group in America. Sixty-six percent are born to single mothers.”

When Indians escape the welfare reservation, they take advantage of the free market’s opportunities to succeed like other Americans.

Likening this to Communism’s true believers, she says today’s apologists for domestic decline share what Jeane Kirkpatrick called “The Will to Disbelieve.” Those who promote promiscuity, pornography, and the preludes to pedophilia as harmless find themselves switching places with the religious extremists they once derided, reciting articles of faith as the evidence mounts that their God has failed.

The result of the spread of pornography is a nation bombarded with sexual imagery, of the most explicit and grotesque variety, yet increasingly “sexually barren” in terms of sex between married people. One telling anecdote occurs on page 51, about a joyless, intimacy-devoid marriage whose “tension over marital sex leads finally to an amicable solution: She has her chocolate, and he has his Internet pornography.” As a result, two Wharton School economists conducted a survey finding that female happiness has fallen throughout the industrialized world for the last 35 years – a period coterminous with their putative “liberation.” Eberstadt connects the dots between increasing male reliance on pornography, the market of women of all ages and descriptions readily available for no-strings-attached sex, the rise of the “man-child” mired in perpetual adolescence, and female dissatisfaction at the fraying family unit.

Two chapters explore what Friedrich Nietzsche called “the transvaluation of values” – specifically, that the moral opprobrium that fell upon pornography a generation ago now falls upon tobacco. No fashionable human being would consider lighting up in public, much less inducing a child to do so, yet many consider teen porn consumption harmless, if not instructive. Similarly, the overconsumption of food or indulgence in poor dietary choices have replaced a prior generation’s concern over rootless, meaningless sexual hookups. As Eberstadt points out, modern sexual ethics are worse than those envisioned by Nietzsche, the author of The Antichrist.

America’s Debt Situation Even Worse Than Europe’s — people should cringe when they see the administration putting all their marketing efforts into the “Buffet rule,” which they know will never pass and which would accomplish next to nothing even if it did.  We have a huge financial crisis looming and they are doing nothing.

America slit its wrist in 2008. In 2012, it will either bandage the wrist and call 911, or it will slit the other one and lie back in the tub.

Correcting 4 myths about the crusades — sadly, I don’t think history teachers will ever get this right and even if they did the myths are so ingrained that it still might not help.

• Myth #1: The crusades represented an unprovoked attack by Western Christians on the Muslim world.
• Myth #2: Western Christians went on crusade because their greed led them to plunder Muslims in order to get rich.
• Myth #3: Crusaders were a cynical lot who did not really believe their own religious propaganda; rather, they had ulterior, materialistic motives.
• Myth #4: The crusades taught Muslims to hate and attack Christians.
