I love a line from a book by Christian psychologist Larry Crabb: “There is a worm in everything.” We too often strive for heaven on earth when we are clearly told that all creation is fallen.

We even pray for heaven on earth, “thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” But we must do so with the knowledge that there in that stinking worm in every thing.

In the immortal words of William F. Buckley, don’t immanentize the eschaton.
At least in the last couple centuries, more large-scale evil has been the result of attempts to bring about a heaven on earth, than the result of mundane greed and vice.
But — and this may be nitpicky, Neil — Heaven isn’t “utopia.” The term literally means “nowhere.”
