Why would you care what they think about the Bible?

bible.jpgI can’t imagine why anyone would want to attend a seminary, church or even participate in a Bible study led by a theological liberal.

Consider that these folks read the Bible and do not see the following:

  • Jesus is the only way to salvation — only about 100 direct and indirect passages about that, not to mention that the whole New Testament makes no sense otherwise.
  • Don’t worship other Gods.  Really.  Any “Christian pluralists” must not have studied the Old Testament, either.
  • Jesus is God — many clear passages on that one
  • The Bible is the word of God and authoritative and reliable
  • Jesus’ validation of the Old Testament
  • The reality of miracles
  • The physical resurrection of Jesus and its important to Christianity
  • And more!

It is like a Genesis 3:1-fest with them constantly asking, “Did God really say ___ ?”

Then consider that these folks read the Bible and do find the following that are not really there:

  • Abortion is morally acceptable
  • Homosexual behavior is morally acceptable
  • Oxymoronic “same sex marriage” is permissible
  • Liberation theology
  • And more!

The theological liberals in the church get it thoroughly wrong in both directions: Not seeing the essential elements that are so clearly there at the same time they see so many things that aren’t there.  And to make it worse, they discount the whole Bible by insisting it is man-made.

  1. Hi Anna,
Sorry I misunderstood your orientation. I have to say to both you and Neil are very useful in helping to clarify the traditional christian positions. When we search for truth there needs to people like you, Anna, who questions many things. It helps one look more closely at one’s faith.
The Bible also teaches that we correct each other with gentleness and love.
My hope is that more people understand that it is God’s design that sex is sacred and should be limited to marriage between a man and a women. If this were carried out, society and the couple would be incredibly healthier and happier.
The Catholic church is the largest christian church. George Bush talked to the Pope who recommended diplomacy not war in Iraq. We did not listen.
Much of the greatest art, oldest universities, first hospitals, were christian. The church helps more people in the world who suffer than any government.
Anna I can not convey the sadness I feel that we abort our children. When my daughter was 16 she got pregnant. We had a decision to make. My wife said, “That’s my grandchild!” My daughter attended the high school where I taught. It was hard but worth it. He is a computer whiz and a very loving boy. So I speak from experience. We did not choose convenience over his life.

  2. Bill, thanks for your reply. Anna is gone for repeated violations of the comment policy.

Preaching a false gospel is a bad idea. Just because one takes their views then finds a few verses in the Bible to (apparently) back them up does not make one a Christian. I encourage her to meditate on this:

Galatians 1:8-10 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.

  3. Neil,
I thought the discussion had value in spite of her infractions.
I felt we needed to be a little more gentle with Anna. Please pray for her and I will as well.
